That’s a Series 2 OEM navigation head unit. The 3 grayed out options might be available with the right attached modules. I know the iPod module was a factory option. The aux 2 and bt-audio I’m not sure are. But now I’m curious and will also investigate. I have one of these head units I’m supposed to install on my car… I’ve just not taken the time to complete the project.

looks like you could just use an Aux cord.

An aux to usb c converter is only like $6

once properly deflooded the car starts and will now run.

or are you asking how the deflooding procedure is done?

hello thank you for the reply but yes I was asking how the deflooding procedure is done. Is it a procedure that they start and stop the car with hitting the gas pedal? Or they have to add chemicals to the gas tank like a special seafoam? I am confused on what a deflooding entails.

Deflooding is purely about reducing the amount of excess fuel kicking around the engine until it can start again and burn off the rest. I can't imagine how additional chemicals would be involved.

They will most likely connect an external power supply to the battery, pull the fuel pump fuse, floor the accelerator pedal, and crank the engine a few times (several seconds each time, letting the starter cool down between bursts).

If they're more thorough, they will pull and clean the spark plugs first.

If they're really thorough, they will try cranking the engine with the spark plugs removed. This is what I'd want to do, personally; this way, at least some of the fuel comes out the side of the engine rather than into the cat.

Does upgrading the ignition coils to LS1/ D585 change what spark plugs I need?

I read through this post and decided that the ones recommended for racing are probably what I should get. However I am also planning to upgrade the coils and the post does not say how upgraded ignition coils affect the decision.

Those plugs are damn expensive so I’m just trying to be sure before I shell out the money as my build is getting very expensive quite quickly (not being cheap I realize it is an expensive car to mod, just trying to avoid wasted spending)

If you're not racing do not use racing plugs. They're a different heat range, not meant for every day driving and sitting in traffic. Regardless of coil choice the same OEM spark plugs are correct.

Vendors still in business

Hi, I am new to this forum. I recently bought an 04 RX8 and am trying to buy a number of items recommended.

I have spent many hours learning about the car (on and off this forum) and identified many sources but I am not sure who is still in business after 20 years. I have tried to contact some of them and had limited success. I would hate to send credit card info off to the great unknown.
Can anyone vouch for the following that they are still doing business?
mazdaswag.com
Ryan Rotary
Black Halo Racing
mazdatrix.com
Rotary Bum
Essex Rotary
Phalanx Performance

Thanks for any help you can give.

BHR, Essex, mazdatrix are definitely still alive. There's also Pettit Racing. Can't confirm for the others.

I did get a reply from Ryan Rotary.
I have sent Rotary Bum (2) "Contact Us" requests and gotten no response, are they still in business?

2004 Leather Seats to 2009?

Hi, I'm new and am in the process of fixing up a 2009 AT RX-8 Sport I recently got. I've seen there have been S2 seats put into an S1. Would it be the same the other way around? I've been on the lookout for red leather seats instead of the cloth ones I have right now, but there are none from 2009-2011 for sale right now. Would I be able to switch to S1 leather seats fairly easy? Thanks

They are interchangeable. Go snag yourself some S1 seats.

Low temp coolant thermostat?

As title suggests. I'm wondering if there is a lower temp coolant thermostat to accomplish what the Rotary Performance low temp oil thermostat accomplishes.
Will the Rotary Performance low temp oil thermostat work interchangeably with measuring coolant temp? Will it fit in the coolant temp thermostat location. Just trying to do some preliminary research, if anyone knows about this and takes the time to let me know it'd be helpful.
Thanks!

What could cause starter issues if there are no lights on the dash and no codes? I replaced the starter around 7 years ago. 2005 Mazda rx8 automatic 115k miles. Any ideas?

check and clean battery terminals, its a known issue. also check/clean the grounding points

is it cranking or do you get a click like a dead battery?

thank you I will check it out. The battery is like less than 2 years old. Also my mechanic just replaced a solenoid. I believe he checked it but I will check it out.

I just had the battery tested by autozone. It’s saying the battery is good but reserve capacity is poor. 🤷‍♂️

Sounds like that battery is done. They can take and hold a proper charge but, after a couple years exposed to the high heat in a typical RX8 engine compartment, there’s no oomph behind it. As soon as you put a load on the battery there’s nothing available.

An update the engine light with the p2070 code went away after getting some gas. It’s like it’s coming and going. I think it may be related to the gas cap. I had that replaced in the past but it was like 7-10 years ago.
