misfires, sensors, and heaters oh my.

last month i purchased an 04 RX8 6 speed with roughly 117000 miles and up until yesterday it ran like a dream. I left work and started to notice that it was taking a little longer to accelerate than usual, and was missing just a little of the power it had. after coming to a full stop i went to go again, and the car just stayed put. it was making noise, but the rpms barely got over 3000 and it wasnt moving. it then started to jump around, and eventually got rolling, but could barely get going. i just assumed it was bad gas and headed back. but i could barely get her over 35-40 mph, and she started to overheat like crazy, but cooled down the second we came to a stop. parked now and staying put.

had an oil change last week, and i purchased the car with a new clutch installed. recently didnt pass an emissions test as well.

put a reader on today, codes p00037, p0410, im not fluent in what the reader codes mean, but it said MIL on, 0 inc, 02 htr, 02 sensor, sec air, evap, catalyst, comp, fuel, misfire, 8 ready, monitors, and then p00037 and p0410.
any help would be appreciated.

Dead ignition leading to dead cat.... and all that heat from holding the engine at full throttle to push against the catalyst probably wasn't too healthy for the engine, either.

Might've even dropped a rotor - but if it idled fine, probably not.

Overheating is never good.

That's the thread I was thinking of. Can't think of it either atm....

Might end up putting an alloy radiator into it. And finidng a decent pair of oil coilers - ten years of stones have faily bloocksed mine

Can anyone tell me on how many injectors a rotor should run on idle? I have 2 injectors running on 1 rotor, each at 4ms.

How often should I actually be redlining? If I go out in the car 5 times a day should I be redlining each time or just a solid redline once a day?

As much as you want/ don't want. Unless you track your car, redlining is more just for the fun of it. There's no hard evidence of it keeping the carbon away.

But plenty of anecdotal evidence. I first heard the saying "A Redline A Day Keeps The Mechanic Away" 25 years ago.

And besides, it's just fun.

What about the oil lines that don't get used unless over 5k?

Aren't oil lines constantly in use, just more or less depending on RPM and load?

Yes. Some amount of oil is always being injected. I don't have time to look for it right now, but there is a table somewhere that shows how much oil is injected by RPM range. It is a surprisingly small amount under low load conditions, but it is being injected.

My 07 6spd auto has never seemed to use much oil.

I think it might be 1 quart in 5k or 6k miles, although I think the level on stick moves during track day drive of 1000 miles round trip and maybe 100 miles of wide open.

I don't sweat it, I just premix 8oz / 12 gallon fillup.

Some people want it to flow oil, some don't.

I just make sure.

A quart every 5-6k miles definitely isn't anything close to normal though. Are you sure you don't have a couple of clogged oil injectors?

This is consistent with what I see for oil consumption on a 6spd manual..... I only premix 8oz maybe every second or third tank now too....

mine takes roughly 250 mL (~1/4 of a quart) every second fuel up (so at most 900 km or 550 miles)

I mis-read..... Mine consumes that in about 5000km.... not miles....

Many of those KMS are highway driving.

I got through 3-4 litres in the last 6000km. That included a trackday.

That's a mix of urban and motorway driving - and getting hammered out of villages and a lot of throttle use....

Have gotten as much at 9L/100km out of it.....

With my OMP rates multiplied by about 2.5 I go through almost two quarts of two-cycle about every 1000 miles. It really all depends on your driving style though I suppose.

Here's another somewhat dumb question that I haven't found a specific answer to.

Racingbeat sells two different oil pressure regulators. The higher (110 PSI) regulator they say should be used solely on racing applications. Given that the S2 engines run this high out of the box. Is there a good reason to NOT use the higher pressure regulator in an S1 engine?

Only had my car few days. And after a spirited run on the motorway i had a burning smell that lasted few seconds then went away. Read that could be the clutch ?

Depends on the smell, could be clutch, oil, coolant, a wiring harness, etc.

Or something in the ambient air.

That's really good, maximum I ever got was 10L/100km doing 99% highway on cruise control.
