That's the exact reason I bought this car - nearly 2 hours a day of driving - might as well be in something fun even if the mileage could be beat in an econo-box. BTW, I average 18.7 MPG with about 30% city and 70% highway (well not highway, actually back roads covered with cops and a 55MPH limit so my cruise is set around 63 most of the time). Could I get better mileage in a civic? Yes. Do I want to? No. Case closed.

horrible gas mileage is why i will never get rid of this car. f@&k the green, global warming types. mine gets 16 or 17 as a norm, besides, my bikes increase my average mile per gallon.

Agreed. I could've bought a Yaris if it wasn't for this simple fact.

"Why'd you get a sports car if you're so concerned about mileage!?!" Gimme a break.

Having a sports car and getting good mileage are not mutually exclusive. The MX-5, one of greatest sports cars of all time; gets great mileage. It's the most popular sports car on the planet.

I think of my 8 as two separate cars: the fun-to-drive, high-revving, 16 mpg sports car I enjoy on weekends or whenever I'm in the mood, and the fun-to-drive 19-20 mpg sports car, upshifting around 4K, that I enjoy the rest of the time.

Keep "drafting" and your whole front will be pitted with rock chips.. heck I have a clear bra and I still keep my distance!

Having read all these MPG threads over the years I call all the BS. I get 13-15 MPG city and 18-20 HWY. Ive traded cars w/ wifey and she gets the same. Yea, she drives like a grandma. I get maybe 16 if I drive very conservatively, meaning, never go over 4K rpms. The absolute best was driving to ATL from tampa on cruise at 72MPH. I got 21.2.

I would be willing to let someone drive my car for a tank of gas to prove it.

Not to be a hater but my 10K lb, 02 duramax with the banks system gets, worst case, 13.5 gpm city and 18 hwy. unbelievable.

PS: It will almost (1/2 car length short) beat the 8.

PSS: My 8 just recieved a new engine, oil leak front crank seal????, and best MPG so far is 13.5 city.

we need E85 only W/turbo. 12psi. ANYWAY

if you want the best of both worlds get a bike...

i could do 160+ and do 0-100 before most cars got out of second gear, and still get almost 200 miles a tank, that only cost me 10 dollars

So are you calling BS on the original post? I'm sure there's some variance amongst the individual engines. That said, I can assure you that I drove 252 miles on 13.5 gallons of premium gasoline. They key is to never, ever beat anyone off the line.

+1 on that comment

on another note...my personal best was right at 26 mpg on the highway. set the cruise on 70 and let it ride. damn near got run over several times but i was in no hurry to get where i was going. just wanted to see how good i could do.

I got 14MPG on my most recent full tank. That one invovled a fair amount of sitting in NYC area traffic though since I had the pleasure of picking up my girlfriend at Newark airport and spending the next 2.5hrs getting home in rush hour traffic.

It's only $45 or so to fill the tank and I fill it twice a month. If I got a car that got 40MPG I would save maybe $45/month. That sure sounds like fun

I'm not that good at converting mpg's, but I'm from Ontario, Canada, and up here in kms, I get about 330kms on a full tank from start to finish. I don't think I got it any higher than that, now God-willing, I plan to drive to the States this summer for vacation, so I hope to get more mileage than that. So, on average, the 330kms is about 50-60kms of driving a day, and I fill up every 4-5 days, at about $52-$54 a tank. I spend about $250-$300 on gas a month. Is that average for you guys, or is that good gas mileage? Also, at that rate, what's the mpg I'm getting?

I got better mileage early in this car's life when I drove more conservatively (esp. during break-in, but even for a while after that).

The only grandma driving that I can stand to do is highway grandma driving (60mph or thereabouts, no dropping to 3rd to pass, etc). I have gotten 20-21mpg that way.

Actually what Im saying is how many people notice a 4-5 mpg difference in driving style. i.e: if I drive like grandma I get 18 mpg, if I drive like gordon I only get 14 mpg.

Obviously my car hates me. Maybe my speedo is messed up!!!!!!!!
