Driver mod yields 20% MPG Improvement

This should come as no surprise to most, but I decided to alter my driving style and see what kind of gas mileage improvement I would see.

Using my usual driving style, which I'd characterize as spirited, I tend to average 15.5 MPG in city driving. For my most recent tank of gas, I made a point to drive like a grandma, pulling away from lights very slowly, keeping revs low, and generally trying to use as little throttle as possible.

After using a full tank with this style, I managed 18.5 MPG, which I figure is a 20% improvement. Last year I spent around $2900 on gasoline, so theoretically I could save myself over $500 this year if I wanted to keep this up.

Of course this style of driving is really no fun at all, so I doubt I'll want to stick with it much longer, but it was still interesting to try it out.

Screw that, it's a sports car. They all pretty much have crappy MPG. Drive it like it should be driven!

Because he drives it like a sports car.

350z is rated at 17 and the Mustang less. These are the low numbers.

We don't need anymore MPG threads.

If you want the highest mpg, get something like prius, or wait for GM's plug in hybrid. oh one more choice, Smart forTWO, I actually like that car. but I aint paying 17 K for it (fully loaded)

Yeah but our car is still more eco-friendly than a Prius or any other hybrid or electric car. The catastrophic environmental harm caused by production and transportation of the batteries used in hybrids is never recovered by the emissions.

True story. Saw a man in a convertible sebring lose his toupe. He tried to be cool about it, like nothing happened. I then punched it through traffic to to run over it first. Driving like a sissy would have robbed me of this glory.

I had a kid come up to me today as I was filling up. Complimented the car and was asking about purchase price, etc.
He then went over to prepay for his gas... was going through his pockets fishing out crumpled ones and (swear to god) loose change.

He came back to put gas in his 92ish vw scirocco and asked some more about the 8. I stopped him and said "you wouldn't be able to afford the gas to drive it more then 2 days a month."

I parked next to this girl who had a brand new Prius...she was arriving as I was leaving.

She looked at my car with this sorta disgust...I returned the favor. Pretty much the pro and anti environmentaly friendly vehicles parked next to each other. It was awesome.

Technically we don't need any more threads at all, but car forums are still fun for those of us who don't treat them as a full-time job.

lol a few years ago a similar thing happened to me too, i was filling up at the gas station and this douche drove up in his Honda Insight to fill up as well, and he got out of the car and started chatting w/ me about my 8. His last question was, 'so how's the gas mileage on this thing', and had a douche smug smile on his face when he asked. I just ignored him after that.

Essentially, you are paying "money for a hooker" in the form of gas money in going to see your gf every time...personally i like my action at least 4 times a week on an average week.

good luck with that son....

Nah dude, thats where you say:

"Probably about 14-15 I don't pay much attention as it is a company car and I have a card for fill-ups."

I never understand the MPG douche brigade. If you're so hardcore about the environment, don't drive at all. And don't get me started on the TDI crowd. Diesel owners lecturing other people about the environment, while their cars spew black soot out the tail pipe, that's just f-cking golden.
