To the guy complaining about paying 18k for a used one and losing 5k a year later, that's nothing. Think about everyone who dropped 28 - 32k for their brand new 8s and can barely fetch 10k for them now, 4 - 5 years later.

Bottom line:
If you bought an 8 and originally had plans to sell/trade it later on, you're a moron.
Mazdas have no resale value, recession or not.

Edit: Last I checked, a new Renesis engine wasn't too expensive so look at the plus side.

if i ever plan on selling mine... which i doubt i will.. i will prob just pay it off and keep it, then buy an FD as my second car.....anyways... IF i do ever sell mine i will just tell the buyer it was a warp speed rotor housing made of myrrh and diamonds.... they will gladly hand over any amount i ask for.

Hah, don't look up the value of your 8? I went out and looked at the value, then I showed my wife and now we are picking ANOTHER one up so she can have an 8. The rotary engine is like a drug. Once you have some its hard to stop, then you pass it to the person next to you.

I would really like to OWN this car and purchase another rotary and start a collection. But there's no telling what the future will bring.

yes it is true ... price will not go down lower then 8k because there is much bigger market for it at that price.

There is very narrow market segment for new or almost new rx8 because of price (mostly middle age people can afford one), so price drops fast now when there are many for sale due to age and miles... but when price drops low enough it becomes more affordable to the young crowd - much larger segment -

I would advise to wait for better economy and then sell it ... lol

I don't even know what you guys would sell the 8 for today unless you've busted yours up, are starving for cash, or need a bigger car for whatever reason. There are only a handful of new cars out today that I think are even worth considering, and they start at around 70k (GTR) and up. Even today I still believe the 8 is probably the best all around value there is for the money when it comes to looks/handling/performance (in that order), with the exception of maybe a vette. Anyone buying a used 8 for 15k or less today in great condition is a lucky bastard in my opinion.

This is deinately the honest truth. My 8 was a 30K loan (price/tax/title/extended warranty). If I could pick one up with low miles, all options and in the color of my choice for right around 15K, i'd be looking at it completely differently. At $580 a month...it wasn't worth it IMO. For $280...it's a no brainer.

No matter how hard I try, with any vehicle i purchase...the joy i get from it is always involuntarily derived in conjunction with how much i'm paying. $600 a month better blow you away in every aspect. $300 a month, sporty sexy and smooth does her just nicely.

I only wish my terms with the 8 would have been different

but the question you ask yourself is....how much is your payment...and is it worth 72K miles on something?

another DD always helped my payments go down smoother...knowing that you're not racing the money vs value clock as the miles continue to roll on it.

my payment is 370 a month, easily affordable even after my salary went down due to the economy.

It doesnt bother me as long as I keep the miles off the car. If I can own it with 90K miles, Ill be happy.

VERY FEW CARS HAVE RESALE VALUE RIGHT NOW.

Ahem. Sorry for the yelling.

I have a relative who bid $10,500 on a 2006 Cadillac DTS w/42,000 miles that was listed on ebay motors for $18,600.

The reserve was not met. Auction ended with one bid.

The next day, the listing dealer called my relative and offered to sell it for $12.500.

He said no dice.

They called back today, but he hasn't yet returned their call.

The car was a one owner, with a squeaky clean carfax and an extended GM warranty in North Carolina.

What don't some of you understand?

THE ECONOMY SUCKS AND THE 8 IS PROBABLY HOLDING ITS VALUE BETTER THAN 85% OF ANY CAR.

Ahem.

Good one Gil! My 8 holds it value better than MOST houses!

TO THE OP AND ALL YOU THAT ARE WORRIED ABOUT RESALE VALUE...

YOU SHOULD"VE LEASED A CAR!

I'm keeping my eight like all my other cars. I'll ride them til the wheels fall off.

None of their wheels have fallin off. 'cept my 8 this weekend.
