Dont look up the Value of your 8!

i just used edmunds.com to take a look at the market value of my 8, and boy i wish i didnt. i bought the car in june of last year and paid 18k from a dealer....a little high for a WWP GT 6spd MT about 40,000 miles.

now my private party retial is at about 13,500 and dealer at 15,000, not even

i know its a bad market, the rotary scares ppl, it doesnt get good gas milage, and bla bla bla but anyone wanna start the discussion of the resale value for our cars?

I8U 01-08-2009 06:37 PM

No thanks...

Bunique 01-08-2009 06:40 PM

KBB still puts mine at about 14500. I'm fine with that. Hopefully someone will buy it tho.....shameless plug.

learycd 01-08-2009 06:42 PM

yeah but KBB is always a couple grand high

TMV (True Market Value) and KBB are always way different

getdamafiaonyou 01-08-2009 06:42 PM

i paid 14 for mine, perfect condition, all service records, and 30,000 miles. i just put it in kbb and it came out to 13,500. sounds like an amazing resale value to me.

04RX8man 01-08-2009 06:42 PM

Yeah I don't want to look knowing that i paid quite a bit for mine 2 yrs ago and know it's prob ridiculously low!!!! Y u seeling bunique

T-ReX-8 01-08-2009 06:43 PM

I don't care, I plan to trade it in one day and move on. I'm thinkin about a mazdaspeed3 right now, but with the new stuff coming out, I'll wait. Plus I HATE FWD...

If a new RX9/RX7 cp,es put, this POS is gone!

SayNoToPistons 01-08-2009 06:44 PM

umm I'm hoping to do something different if it sells. I figure someone might want to pick up a nice two-tone for a descent price along with a few mods.

OldCodger 01-08-2009 06:47 PM

Mazda dealers can't sell new RX8s and nobody wants to buy RX8s.

Which came first? Does it matter now?

Situation is not unique to RX8 but some cars may be hit worse than others. It would appear that for maybe the next six months car buyers will be much happier than car sellers. Locally you could replace RX8 with any car except Subies in the first line and be correct. Subaru may only be an exception here due to recent bad weather and it's numbers sold are so small it really does not matter.

Bunique 01-08-2009 06:47 PM

It would be sweet if those speed 3's were AWD. I would think about it then. I love the interior. Just looked at it quickly at a dealership and thought it was nicer than the 8's interior, but ya, I'm not too interested in a FWD car right now.

Fathead_03 01-08-2009 06:55 PM

Im pretty sure the KBB of my 04 dropped from 17500 3 months ago, to about 14500 now... :(

Good excuse to keep it though!

learycd 01-08-2009 07:13 PM

yup thats what i plan on doing, keeping it then maybe making it a spec rx8????

idk we'll see how things go

tubingchamp 01-08-2009 07:16 PM

I'm never selling mine either..

04RX8man 01-08-2009 07:18 PM

Yes, that is true. http://www.nadaguides.com/ will give you a more realistic number.

come to fargo, nd. we have a sweet white one.

RotoRocket 01-08-2009 07:51 PM

Look at any car right now.

Seriously.

The whole 8 depreciation thing is way overdone.

Most cars depreciate at least 50% within TWO YEARS from the time of the original (new) purchase.

04RX8man 01-08-2009 07:56 PM

^^yeah i wish we could just make the trip out there haha....ROAD TRIP ha but I WILL say something who knows he is a crazy mofo and may want to make the trip haha!!!

m477 01-08-2009 08:25 PM

I see plenty of G35 coupes that cost over $35k new just a couple years ago going for low $20k range now, and many of those are very low mileage clean cars. And BMW 3-series that cost over $40k new are going for a little more than half that now. So it's not just the 8, most new cars will depreciate pretty hard the first few years.... if you don't want your car to depreciate, go buy a 1995 Civic.

ferg 01-08-2009 08:30 PM

like i say, never ever ever buy a new car, just find a good used one and your not upside down :)

m477 01-08-2009 08:45 PM

I wouldn't say never buy a new car... it can be a good value if you keep the car a long time, you know it's been properly taken care of since new, you have a full warranty, and maintence costs are very low for a long time. It's just not a very good idea if you plan to sell it 2 years later.

Renesis07 01-08-2009 08:48 PM

yea, how do you people think I feel?

I owe $15,XXX and mine is an 04 with 72K miles. Taught me a lesson about rolling inequity into a sports car and expecting it not to bite me in the ass 3 years later

Ross_Dawg 01-08-2009 08:56 PM

well I know KBB is full of shit but I bought mine for $15K and KBB says its worth $15,150 as of right now...
