The economy is the real reason. Hopefully President-elect brings a nice relief to our economy. I'd trade my car in if I ever was to get rid of it NADA priced a clean trade in for like $13k. I paid like $21ish back when I got it in June of 2007. So a 19 months it dropped roughly $8k, I'll take it, I'll admit when I got it I found a VR with red/black interior loaded with low miles I just got it.

I think the lesson learned is never buy the first generation of any new platform. I'm going to keep my 8 out of a "labor of love". But I'll wait a year or two before I buy buy a new car. I usually like to swap out every 4 years.

Great analogy..

If everyone thought this there would be no Used cars to buy now would there?

I can agree on this one though, that is why I waited for the Series II, all of the bugs gave been fixed (well I hope)...

And I think this will be the last rotary for another decade or so...everything has changed since last August in the car world and world.

yeah...wanna hear the sad truth of the matter? You'd be lucky to get that book value on your 8.

Sold my VR 05 GT, every option minus nav, 20K miles, winter rims/tires included...$19.8K. And that was in fall 2007! (Bought it brand new in May/2006) However that was right before they offered the 8years/100K mile warranty (go figure).

Don't buy a car to look up it's value...because the ONLY value in a car that ever really counts, is it's personal senimental value. It's market value will always drop, espeically in the first 2-3 years.

Cars are ALWAYS a bad investment. They used to say the only investment that goes UP is real estate, but right now...i wouldn't even wanna be in that market either.

To be honest that is why i'm here I don't own a 8 but would like to in the near future. I have been seeing 05's with 30-40k miles on them that are fairly inexpensive. I don't think you could find another car out there that is a better deal as far as performance, and with a nice interior like the 8 has.
or that is as sexy

Agreed, and why would you sell...

There is still NOTHING on the market today that has the balance (Beautiful Handling), equipment levels as STANDARD not an option, and the wonderfully smooth rotary engine, this IS a very unique car and I believe NEVER to be repeated for a long time...

And then there is the VALUE, second to none..!

Some people use the 8 as a second car. Some of those people took a cut in pay recently. One of those people can't sell a 2008 RX-8 with 3500 miles on it for $17K.

I've seen about a half dozen '04s on Autotrader below $10k within a hundred miles of where I live. Generally 50-60K miles, usually sport/base model.

I can a buy an '08 Pontiac G8 GT that MSRP'ed for 33k for 20k right now with 19,000 miles.

I almost bought a BMW 335i ('07) with 19k miles for $25,600 that I believe MSRP'ed for $43,000.

I really don't see the particular issue here.

I paid 21,900 for my 05 6MT w/Xenon. ESC & Fogs, NEW ($23,360 OTD) three years ago, it MSRP'ed for 28,600, and even if I only got 11 or 12 for it now with 33,000 miles on it, it cost me less than 280 per month to drive it so far, and that should keep dropping the longer I drive it - I plan on keeping it, BTW, because I CAN NOT find a car I like better for ANYWHERE NEAR THE MONEY after trying really hard.

If you want great resale value, buy an Accord, Civic or last gen Evo.

I bought a $65K BMW 5 for $26K. That is a whole RX-8 and a half depreciation. Think about it.

Eh, all values eventually plateu. I dont see the value of my 8 dipping below 8K if I keep my miles reasonable for a while.

I did the math and Ill be breaking even in about 1.5 to 2 more years. I honestly plan to keep this car for a long time so I am not worried about it.

I would really like to OWN this car and purchase another rotary and start a collection. But there's no telling what the future will bring.

My friend is shopping a used Mini convertible. She says they're holding their value well, at least here in and around NYC.

Neither did I....which is why I took it up the butt when I finally sold mine. Intention and actuality ended up being two COMPLETELY different roads for me.
