when u can get the HP tht we do with a 1.3 liter motor tht is rediculous. i dnt know the math but divide stock rx8 hp by 1.3 to figure out how many hp per liter. tht alot higher then alota cars out. especially if u go FI.
yea our cars r slow frm a dig. but who won the rolex? o yeah rx8.
n this car might not be the fastest but it is fast enough and fun as hell. it the most fun i have ever had behind the wheel of anything. our tak goes to 10! we can rev out to 9K all daylong. u just cant beat tht

I don't care how slow or ugly someone's car is, I don't need to be walking around with my dick in the air telling them how bad it is. They paid good money for it, and they're proud of it. Let 'em be.

I had a guy come over to my house a month back and the very first thing he said to me (BEFORE EVEN SAYING HELLO) was "DUDE! What the ****! I told you to get X and Y stereo system for your TV! The one you have now SUCKS!!"

When I'm considering purchasing something, that's when you can tell me your opinion on it, on how good or bad it is. But after I've already bought something, why are you going to rag on it? Tell me yours is better or bigger or faster or harder? I bought it because I wanted it and I'm proud of it.

The only reason I can see for ragging on something someone already bought is to make them feel bad or make yourself seem knowledgeable. Neither of those attributes is something I value in a friend, and needless to say he hasn't been invited over since. Wasn't really my friend, to begin with, but this "car is slow" business is another branch of the same tree of arrogance.

Damn I agree 100%..lol

Slow is relative. If your previous car is a diesel turbo with lots of torque like mine, but not much acceleration, then the RX8 is STILL going to be faster.

Speed is highly overrated for road drivers. I leave speed to the people who street, drag or track race. I'm just driving my car on the road at a safe reasonable speed, and not get stopped by speeding camera!

Basically, To Each His/Her Own.

well it seems no one really knows what the stock 8 does 0-60, but for example in the 2004 Car and Driver comparison test, they tested it at 6.0 seconds, up against the Z and s2000. The 8 won that test btw, mostly due to ridiculously good handling/feel.

A car that goes 0-60 in 6.0 is not slow.

I would say it goes like this at least for 0-60 times.

over 9 seconds=slow
8-9 seconds=reasonable
7-8 seconds=somewhat quick, actually capable of merging with some decent accel.
6-7 seconds=quick car, definitely can feel it has some power, feel it up against your seat
5-6 seconds=fast, no question
4-5 seconds=amazing
3-4 seconds=ludicrous

Yeah, I never truly understood the guys that would buy DD's that have insane amounts of power, and then never use it. It's as if they were compensating for something.....

HP is a drug . Hell I have 300 hp now and love it . Then after a while it's like " I wonder what it would be like to have 400 ?"

But you are right , on the street even 300 is hard to use . One stab on the throttle and you are into licence loseing territory .
I could not bare to go back to stock power now though - it's just too much fun having all that torque on tap .

Eat that NA sukas !!!!!!

I use to have a friend with a Mustang GT who used to rat on me going wow your cars slow. Why don't you do all this work to it. Lemme drive it Lemme drive it.... I let him drive it one day. He goes for a 1.3 litre this thing has pep.

Another friend with a Mazda 6s. Always was like your cars slow blah blah. I'm like yeah alright and your point is? I let him drive it, he shut his F88king mouth.

I just say to people when you turn your car on, does it return the favor?

I get about 1 compliment a day about my car. Not to mention the numerous numbers of head turns I see. Mercedes, Corvettes, BMWs, you name it people look.

You should have told him it was acutally a 2.6 litre. He wouldn't have been as impressed.

Why is this thread still going?

I like how everyone goes into defensive mode. Dude the rx8 is slow in acceleration in stock form , period. Stop being so defensive about it , just shows denial. Also i thought this thread was about acceleration , not how good it looks. Irrelevant comments ftl.

I used to own a 2006 Corvette, so yes, the RX-8 is slower. However, for the 98+% of people who never track their cars, it's plenty fast for what we need on the streets. Plus the handling is awesome. Lots of fun to drive; it has that typical Mazda feeling.

Remember, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow. And the RX-8 isn't that slow.

the thing is our cars "look fast", and people expect somethin like corvette fast...little do people know our little 1.3 liters of all motorness is pushin ~200hp....here in america its all about displacement and torque, without that "you dont know cars and performance"... theres no replacement for displacement, you know what i say, BOATS BELONG IN THE WATER, drive your sh*t off a cliff if you cant handles Gs on a corner

Last summer, I found a Ferrari 360 on the highway, with a fairly hot middle aged woman riding passenger, I hung next to the Ferrari for a moment, since it is the only car that can compete with the 8 in beauty (my eyes, my opinion), and that is when I noticed that hot female passenger looking over my 8 with a small grin and slowly nodding her head. She looked at me, winked, and started laughing. The Ferrari driver got pissed and punched it, probably hitting 140-150 at least.

Ah, that felt good.

I posted pictures of my RX-8 on a DSM community that i actively post on.
Everyone bitched about how it was a girl car, it was slow, they'd rather use the RX-8 as winter car etc.

I clearly stated, it's unlike anything I've ever drove before, it's not fast straight line performance and i could give two *****. Going from a AWD turbo DSM with about 300hp it doesn't bother me at all that my DSM is quicker. I will spend more money and time working on my DSM then i do driving it. Add in the fact it's a 1992, has 177k on the chassis so it's not the most beautiful thing in the world, has rattles like you wouldn't believe, and no-where near the comfort level of the 8.

It's bascially whatever i feel like driving - Talon: Fast acceleration(esp if you launch), beautiful top end, somewhat sluggish in corners- mild understeer.

RX-8: Really fast in the corners, comfortable, good top end for N/A, Head-turner.

Most people who are skeptical of the RX-8 have never drove one, looked inside, or even sat inside one. If i had all the money i invested into my Talon and put that towards a 20B I'd put people to shame when they think my car is slow.

I agree. It's a waste of hp. The new taurus SHO has AWD and 365 hp. I don't get it. it's a passenger car. why do they need over 300hp? It's a waste. Overpowered for it's purpose. Just drives up the cost of a plain old passenger car. I would rather have a sports car for fun.
And I do.

Guy's I wouldn't worry to much about others comments on this car being to slow. In most cases it's just some miss-informed "wanna be" that has never had the opportunity to drive the 8. Most people just don't understand the true dynamics of this car. When are we going to get out of this culture where most are hung up on that straight line power is everything. BULL SH*T!!! Actually straight line power frankly is BORING!! I think early to mid 90's ads for Pirelli tires said it best. "Power is nothing without control". This car is all about maintaining it's momentum at higher speeds much more so then most cars with muscle. So don't take it to heart what others say, obviously they don't have a clue and they're just talking out of their ***.

I have a slow automatic and most of my friends think my car is faster then it is. Actually most people comment when I redline...and some even freak out. Who cares ultimately. There's always gonna be somethin faster. Its just like anything else in life..and who really cares?

Slow only makes sense when it’s compared to something else. Is the RX8 slow when compared to a Civic? No. Compared to a Corvette? Yes. I will say that the chasis can handle a lot more than the 13b is putting out. It’s a wonderful platform and just needs another 100hp to stay competitive or a combination of weight-loss and power.

Perception is everything... the sound, feel, and the fact that people are aware they got into a sports car all add into this.

Thats why the speedometer is hidden to where the passengers can't see it.

I dunno about this...adding 100 bhp would require a larger, heavier motor, heavier drivetrain, or a turbo which would upset the throttle response and engine note. I think the chassis is excellent for a car with 200-260 bhp or so. Also, I am not sure I agree that the rx8 is slow compared to a vette...I mean in a straight line, yes of course, but maybe not on a less than perfectly smooth winding road.
