Ever wonder why insurance is so high for people aged 17-25?
My father's co-worker lent his son his C5 corvette for the night and he ended up wrapping it around a tree. IMO get a beater, get in an accident and buy the RX8 when you are experienced. Kids these days probably want the RX8 to "get girls" or "become popular". You're in high school, a car should get you from point A to point B.

There's no reason a 15 year old can't be driving around in a new car for less than $20,000 or a used car. Grow up dude.
someone asked if i was going to Ocean County, i go every summer to ocean city... so keep your family off the road all summer for the next couple years....they won't mind :D and to the same person, i'll never be on the NJ turnpike...i use 295 (i think) to go to & from school, and i hang out somewhere every weekend...and it never involves the turnpike
and to someone else...it's a simple mistake, i'll know how to f*cking spell dependable next time :D

Lots of wishful thinking by monkey and rpah. Let them post...dream....whatever. It's their "wet dream".
Monkey is getting an RX8 in two years...come back then and talk to us.
rpah is supposedly driving or has driven (or has parents that want to buy him an M3)....OK....whatever.
You guys are watching way too much Osbornes.

I have been reading this for a couple of days now, and I have seen all the flame posts against Monkey and I think mostly every one is just jealous! I think if he is able to save up 10k for that car he should be able to get it!!! 10k to a teenager is a lot of money!! how many in here saved up 10k for your first car? I sure didnt. being able to save that much shows he will baby his car since he spent a lot of his own money on it!! Sure he comes from a more weathy family then most of us here had when we grew up, but that is no reason to tell him not to buy a certain car! I say go get it kid!! and have fun!! just dont do anything stupid in it ok??

Maturity, not bucks, man. He is saving to get himself a 30,000 coffin. In 2 years he will probably not want an 8 but a Chrysler Firepower, Vette or something else. This is largely a joke due to his wet dream(s)
Pole position to the Monko is being wrapped around one. 'Nough said.

Save as much money as you want.....I say that in two years you're still driving the Elantra and be a better person for the experience (as well as being alive....as opposed to mangled in an RX8).

what do you actually think the chances are of him getting "mangled"?? if he is going to be a stupid driver he will crash in either the elantra or the 8. so whats the diffrence?? either way he still gets "mangled" he just crashes a more expencive car with the 8. He just needs to be careful thats all, with which ever car he drives.

Monkey some advice, dont get so angry at the people on this post. they are just looking out for you with good intentions. I have been reading a lot on this forum these past few months (even though I dont post alot) and everyone here seems to be civil most of the time. I know for a fact when I was your age I would have loved it if I could have gotten a car like the 8!! Just make sure when you do get your license that you go to a good PRIVATE driving school to get it, you will learn a lot more there to provide you with a good understanding of driving. Then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont try anything stupid in your car and get hurt or worse somebody else!! take it to a track if you want to test it!!

Another bit of advice would be that if you take those driving schools, don't let them go to your head and make you think that you're the best driver ever to grace the streets with your abilities. I have a couple friends who have taken these courses only to go out and take more chances and drive more recklessly because they think they're now better than all other drivers and capable of handling whatever the world can throw at them.
I also have friends who didn't let it go to their heads (not to sounds conceited, but myself included) and they're the people that are turning out to be the drivers who actually benefited from these courses. Sure they might not be thrashing the car into corners and tearing around town like they're playing Gran Turismo, but I'd be willing to bet they'll be in fewer accidents and near-miss situations than the ones who let it go to their heads.
Bottom line is, the basis for driving (and doing it well) is maturity, and I think a lot of the guys on here see you acting immature on these boards and think about what kind of behavior that would translate to on the road. In the end, they're looking out for your safety as much as anyone else's. Anyway, enough preaching, go have fun - but be safe!
Edit: Forgot to mention that if you don't want to spend as much money on a full-fledged driving school or if you just don't have the funds on hand for one, small events like Mazda's Rev It Up or attending SCCA Autocrossing can be very helpful if you take them seriously.

OK....let me amend that......to answer his original question, the RX8 is reliable. But, it isn't a good car for the inexperienced driver.
If you read all of monkey's posts, he's stated he's going to tests the car's limits. Testing the limits of a car like the RX8, that has such high capabilities, will land him in the weeds (or worse) in any RX8. Certainly, he can test the limits of the Elantra, too....but it won't be at 140 MPH....or taking an s-curve at twice the posted speed limit because the Elantra's capabilities aren't high enough to allow that.

Screw gas mileage
You should never "test a car's limits" on public roads, never mind killing yourself, you could hurt people that are just there trying to get home from work and happen to cross paths with your dumb *** going 150 mph in an out of control car

Maybe he should change his name to invisibledumb-***. By his posts he has proved that he is the stereotypical dumb-*** teenager that thinks he knows everything and ignores all the advice he gets from people. He says he is going to test the cars limits, with 2 years for driving experience under his belt...well isn't that great!
I really don't care if this guy helps out the gene pool by removing himself from it. I'm more worried about him snuffing out someone else's life because his ego wanted to show off to all the other kids at his school.

immature-1: characteristic of a lack of maturity; "immature behavior" 2: lacking in development; "immature plans"; "an unformed character"
to me it looks like you think the word immature refers to age
and didn't you read a while back? did i not ask people of any locations of a track in NJ?? so i DID take people's advice(which was, that if i was gonna test the limits, i should do it on a track), and i will follow it...so yes, i am gonna test the limits
and if you understood what my name meant, you'd realize that you were calling me smart
edit: and you're the stereotypical ******* that won't listen to someone just because he's younger
