Death of my RX8, its burning in car hell
So.... my car is officially scrap metal...
just finished up a nitrous install and was running around town with the nitrous OFF. was driving home to make sure I had the lines tightened up all the way before i ran the nitrous and as i was passing the gas station I heard a loud POP and my motor died, all the warning lights came on, everything died.
i was not under boost and then white smoke started pouring out of my hood. I got out quickly and popped the hood and there was a fire where the fuel line is... I freaked out and yellled at everyone to get as far away as possible and called 911 from the gas station. I had them shut down their pumps and when the fire department showed up told them I had a full tank of nos in the back. they proceeded to freak out and quickly doused the fire and removed the tank and threw it aside. thankfully i am ok and was not running the nitrous when this happened or I may have been killed.
The cause of the problem was obviously the fuel line as the fire was located right over the tee fitting for the fuel line that goes into the solenoid. However it quickly spread and decimated the whole car. Thankfully it spread to the back of the car last and did not even singe the tank becasue they pulled it out in time/
I dont want to discourage anyone from getting nitrous by making this post. It can be safe just please have it done by a professional. I was arrogant and thought I could handle it on my own and even after spending a week taking my time and doing it right something still went wrong. It really sucks becasue I put all my time and hard earned money into this car and was very patient with it only for it to blow up.
But I realize that it is my fault and a mistake of my own, and I don't blame anyone but my own damn self. Hopefully I can view this whole tragedy as a learning experience and take something postitive away from it, like the fact that I'm still here...
Please everyone just be safe out there and when dealing with some type of forced induction please have someone with knowledge on this sort of thing do it!

WOW!! I am so sorry to hear that. That sounds terrifying. I'm glad you and everyone around is okay. Sorry to hear about the loss and I'm glad you had the pumps shut off. Do you have any pics?
And first I noticed was it was a SS 8...

Glad you're alright. Just a reminder to anyone reading: Whenever you do any work with a fuel line, make sure everything is tight when you're done. Start the engine and look everywhere along the line (especially any connections) for any sign of leakage.

That really blows.
I keep a electrical safe fire extinguisher in the back seat within reach for this reason. I never want to be standing there watching the car burn.

Insurance with a quick phone call to the local fire dept. will find out that you put NOS in. Might as well be responsible and claim that it is your own fault. At least you will come out with your integrity intact.

holy **** yes ^^^ If you mod your car in any way, just keep a fire extinquisher in it... folks willing to pay thousands of dollars to do mods and wont spend $20 for some peace of mind.

That's a stupid comment. You drive your car into a ditch, and it's "your own fault." You smash into somebody, and it's "your own fault." That's what comprehensive insurance is for. Come on.

That sucks. Fortunately (if it did get to the tank), nitrous by itself isnt flammable. Unfortunately it would provide more oxygen to help the burning. That sucks though. I installed my nitrous myself (mostly). I had the help of CRH for most my problems but didnt feel confident about doing the fuel line tap myself so I had a shop do it. No problems yet, and if there are problems I'll blame the shop lol.
How does insurance cover this? Hope you get something, if not, I feel for ya.

YEah, I hear you about the fire extinguisher. I think that I am going to be buying myself a couple. Sorry for your loss, but just remember that in ten years this will just be a story you tell.
