Coolant Change Interval Controversy

I was checking my oil, as I typically do every 10 days or so, and noticed that my coolant level in the reservoir dropped a tad. Not much, but enough to notice. It's still full.

Anyways, that got me thinking about the 60k coolant interval flush and refill as recommended in the manual.

I know, because I just searched, that a lot of my fellow 8 owners are doing the flush and refill every two years or even more frequently, using coolant plus distilled or de-mineralized water:

Anyways, a lot of people think the manual is actually conservative when it comes to coolant interval changes. A lot of modern cars are designed to go much longer before needing one (GM and their Dexcool - I know, many reported problems).

Also, the rotary is heat generating machine - much more so than most coventional motors.

Here's my question: Does anyone here have an opinion on the ideal coolant and change interval with the 8 in moderate climates (midwest)?

Also, I haven't seen any recalls or TSBs regarding the factory setup on the coolant system? Have I missed any? I know there are some heat shield TSBs, etc., but I'm talking coolant or coolant system directly.

Thanks.

2yrs on factory then every 2 yrs later as a minimum

I do mine a lot more....it's kinda like oil.....cheap insurance

New engines with a lot of aluminum and iron combinations like our engines...can have a lot of galvanic problems from the dissimilar metals if the coolant becomes depleted of the anti corrosion additives...or if it becomes compromised from crappy water ..

And you're using Mazda spec'd or OEM coolant on the changes?

Thanks.
