Considering buying an RX-8, Need opinions.

I found an RX-8, 2004 with 24,000 miles, manual, looks amazing. I'm going to be making the drive down there in a few days, and something the dealer said catches me off... He said that it's a mazdaspeed edition, that it's super rare. Erm, I know I sound like such a noob, but I didn't think they put out a mazdaspeed edition, just mazdaspeed parts. If so, what do I need to look for to make sure it really is? If it really is, is 17k a reasonable price? Thanks. ^^

$17k is to much for an 04. I see fully loaded with under 30k mi for $14k
I dont care what mods it has you never get your money back for aftermarket parts.

I don't think they actually had a mazdaspeed edition per say. I think you could buy some '04's with the full mazdaspeed package or purchase all the components and put them on themselves.

It should include:
Full mazdaspeed bodykit (nose, side skirts, wing, rear bumper)
Mazdaspeed intake and exhaust.
lightweight flywheel
Mazdaspeed springs and shocks, swaybars
Mazdaspeed front and rear strut tower bars (front is CF with brake master cylinder support.

I don't know if I forgot anything.

If it's an '04 I would ask if has had an engine compression check lately or if the engine is original. Many of us with '04's have had our engines replaced under warranty. You will have an 8yr 100K mile warranty on the motor so you don't need to lose sleep over it but you should definitely find out the condition of the motor and see if it needs to be replaced or not.

So if it indeed has all the mazdaspeed parts, is it worth 17?

mazdaspeed also makes:

SS brake lines
brake pads
wheels
"CF" parts for the center console, door buttons and interior door handles
Sideview mirrors
shift ****
oil cap
coilovers
shocks/springs
rearview mirror cover

these items are not MS but optional stuffs:
cargo tray for trunk
cargo box with lid for trunk
cargo net for trunk
spare tire kit
moon roof deflector
metal strakes on the side vents (which arent actually vents but that's what they're called)
metal rotary accents for the front and rear
gas shocks for the hood (hood bonnet dampes, sold in europe)
appearance package items (front air damn, front and rear mud guards, side accents

The car either comes with no extra trim on the outside or a mixture. Either appearance package items or a MS kit. The MS kit is far more valuable then appearance package.. if it's authentic.

So if someone put ALL that onto a car then it's kind of a MS edition rx8. But no, mazda has never ever made a mazdaspeed rx8 that was sold to the public, the dealer is an idiot or a liar.

and yes.. the MS nose alone costs over 1500, the wing another grand.. so 17 for the car is a good deal.. if it's authentic

I'm sorry for all the dumb questions, you guys are the only ones I know to ask. As you can tell from a lot of my other posts, most of my friends don't have the first clue.

follow swoope's advice. Go to a meet, look at other people's cars, ask tons of questions. It's a lot easier to get an idea of what you want/need/lust for when you see it in person.

We were all new once, even swoope. But he's right in saying searching is key to understanding the 8. Let me suggest reading all the stickied threads in most of the categories to get a better understanding of what's out there.

I'm lucky I have an understanding girlfriend. I log hours on these forums reading up on what I can and asking questions about what I don't see. She just smiles and looks up more cars. You guys have been a huge help, I appreciate everything you guys have said, it means to world to me.

Always glad to help someone who's actually looking for it. Keep looking for that 8, it's out there somewhere waiting for you.
