Found a 2004 RX8 for 3200

Im sure you have all seen this a few times and sorry for that. Looking for a few opinions. Found a red 2004 RX8 with a blown/seized engine. other than engine its appears to be in great shape. I am trying to get a good idea on a fair price to pay. They are asking 3200 for it. To me this seems high considering year and reason for sale. What would be a good counter/max price. Thanks for the help.

Jeff

$3200 is definitely too high. What part of the world are you in? if you are stateside, I don't think I'd pay more than $1000-$1500 for a car with a blown motor.

Seems high for a blown motor. I would say 2K max. Any pics?

Car with blown motors seem to be going up in price. I've only seen a few lately below 2k, and those were pretty well wrecked. It seems most of those are ending up in junkyards now.

I look at things this way. If a new engine costs $3000 (being generous here) and labor to put it in is $1000 (also being generous) You are already at $4000. Considering a decent drivable RX-8 can be purchased for $5500ish (sometimes less, sometimes more) I wouldn't pay more than $1000-$1300 for a CLEAN RX-8 with a blown engine. There's one guy I saw on the internet who wanted $7000 for a 2004 with 100,000 miles with a blown engine and bad slave cylinder. Not sure if $7000 was a typo and he meant $700, but, who spend more fixing a car with a blown engine when you can get a running one for similar prices. Plus when replacing an engine, most folks replace other worn components here and there further adding to the price.

yeah the parts to properly rebuild one of those motors cost around $1000-1500 alone, and things are gonna be needing replacement along the way from age (i.e. oil injectors, ignition coils)

3k is way too high. best case it should sell for 2k... maybe even less
