Charles you have been a big help in this issue thanks again. Where can i order the assembly. The dealer said 275 for the assembly and the petal....unless the petal is part of the assembly.

Also if any one in the chicago area has any experience dealing with this issues and would not mind helping me out after i get the parts i would be more then happy to pay you the car is still drivable so i got some time left if i decide to not have the dealer do all the work.

I live in lansing IL so if your close like less then an hour to 2 hours away let me know.

Maybe a few other decent places who sell OEM parts, but I am not sure who I am forgetting.

I just ran a price check at OnLineMazdaParts.com. They are asking $131.64 for the part.

Are you sure thats for the assembly as well at the petal.

Also if you go to the link http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214264

and put in 04 mazda rx8 and use that part number nothing shows up.

Its a 1 hour min. charge for anything.

100 bucks comes off. 100 buck is put back on.

Pretty simple. 200 bucks. Sounds right to me. Thats why you always ask for there labor rate.

Mechanic gets paid similar to comission bases.

Ok well honestly I think I am just going to dealer rape me at this point. At the end of the day if I told him no it would just take longer for me to get my 8 back and its not like he is going to install a part that I bring him.

I am so glad that not even 2 moths after I buy my 8 I have to pay 500 to get something that should never have broken fixed.

Thanks to everyone that tried to help but I just don't have the resources to try and tackle this myself.

Thread revival!

My clutch snapped on Thursday so I ordered the bracket from Race Roots. Today I attempted to install this bastard.... I am almost done now after about 3 hours of slicing the **** out of my hand and getting cramps in my back from laying upside down and sideways half out of my car.... At this point I am having trouble getting all the holes to line up right (my fault for not using a big enough drill bit and the cars fault for not helping me at all). With the right tools and space this is not too hard of an install. I'll stop bleeding soon I think. But I should mention also that I am an aircraft mechanic, lol. I'm not the man or anything but I do love to fix stuff....and bleed.

Yesterday I noticed the clutch started squeaking. It had never done it before so I figured I'd wait until this weekend to work on it. Today on my way to work the clutch snapped. Luckily, I go to work early enough that there wasn't anyone on the roads and was able to clutchlessly get to work. I have a feeling my 8 may be spending the night here until I figure out what to do.

Clutch Bracket Reinforcment instalation problem

So i read plenty about the nuts being a PIA when installing the new reinforcment bracket on the clutch pedals but no one went into detail. I had the same problem with the clutch snapping and then staying to the floor and the left side had broken. Now i have rewelded the bracket and installed the Race Roots reinforcement bracket on the pedal and got everything on except the nut all the way on the left at the top... the problem that i'm running into is that the new piece is in the way and the nut does not reach the screw because it is too big to fit inbetween. If anyone has previously had and solved this problem then i would love to hear some genius ideas, otherwise i'm afraid the only thing i came up with is to file the bracket down part way!

Sorry for not answering your question, but did you file a report with the NHTSA? If you read you saw that the NHTSA is finally gathering preliminary evidence against Mazda.. we just need more people to report!

This recently happened to me, and dealer wanted to charge around ~$550 as well. Forget that...this is a VERY easy fix.

As far as removal/installation goes, its simply just 4 bolts and 2 clip-on connectors, less than 30 mins for removal and re-installation.

As for getting a new pedal assembly, as mentioned by others, you can simply go to a local shop to get it welded. You can also check with local junkyards and pick one up for cheap. But if you do this, then there's a good chance you will run into the same probably again, no telling how soon or late. But definitely avoid the dealership for this one...
