So I showed up to Mazda today and I mentioned the clutch bracket warranty and they werent aware of it. I had to show them the letter lol.

 

I'm on the phone with a Mazda customer service rep right now. Do you know if the dealership will charge you to have the clutch pedal "inspected"? My clutch definitely makes a slight groaning noise when I depress it, I just don't want to be stuck with a bill if the clutch pedal bracket is NOT broken.

Mazda can't confirm this for me...

 

I'm curious to find out how much time in Labor the dealerships are allowed to charge for this as it'll give us an idea of what we can have reimbursed. (for those of us who had to have broken pedals replaced by a 3rd party)

 

Call a local dealership and get a quote for replacing a clutch pedal, just tell them you have more than 100k miles.

 

Speaking of which, how do I increase my horsepower, while getting better gas mileage? Also, how do I beat a Civic in a drag while adding oil? Can I install this turbo?

So Mazda wont replace mine unless it starts making noise again, but since I welded the issue it will never make noise.

 

I've had the reinforcement on my clutch pedal for three years and never worry about it breaking, never worry about the Mazda dealership, never worry about getting stranded or in an accident because of this stupid pedal.

Mazda should step and do more about this issue but that clearly will not happen any time soon.

Good luck getting the same POS clutch pedal as a replacement so you can face the same issue again in the future.

If you'd rather have a new stock bracket, go to your dealer, tell them it failed, show the repair, and take it from there. I don't think the notice said they'd handle it only if you had spent money at a Mazda dealer.

Reminds me of an entertaining (and relevant) moment with my VW Rabbit. The fuel pump would sometimes not run because of an inadequate connection at the fuse block. There was a recall, with the fix consisting of a simple plug-in bypass. By the time that happened, I had shoved brass tubing through where the original tin connector had been, and sweat soldered it all in place.

I told the service writer about my fix, and said that I'd be happy with it that way or their way. He had a very interesting grimace, and took the car into the shop. I saw the tech replace the whole fuse block.

So don't feel left out just because you did your own fix.

I can't remember who told me (I think it's RaceRoots) that the welds will eventually break since the plates are so thin and it's recommended that the support bracket is installed for better reinforcement vice welding.

 

So should i just buy the reinforcement bracket later down the road? Mazda said they wont go through the warranty claim with me since its fine right now. Ill just keep the letter and when it starts acting up again ill have it replaced.

mark: I filed my complaint a while ago as well. It's a bitter / sweet moment for us as RX-8 owners.

good news is Mazda is finally addressing a safety concern that should have never been an issue to begin with.

bad news: more bad publicity for the Zoom Zoom brand and this'll cost Mazda even more money on a car that already wasn't very profitable.

Yes, it was Castle Mazda in Silver Spring, Maryland. I called the other day because I couldn't find the invoice. They are out of business now, that may be one of the reasons why! Good think I found the invoice or I'd be pissed! lol

 

Seriously...I bought the part for 100 bucks and spent 1/2 hour of my life installing it.

 

makristal some people refuse to get there hands dirty:P I personally have had not a single issue. the only bracket I am running is the brake master cylinder reinforcement.

 

You could wait for it to break or when it starts to have symptoms bring it to attention. I bought my clutch pedal bracket for $159 and it took me less than half an hour to remove the broken bracket and install the new one.

 

finally. they really should recall these though and do some sort of reinforcing on them. i wonder if we could order the clutch pedal assembly and then bring the receipt to mazda and have it on hand for when the clutch does break, if you're nearing the end of that warranty extension

Yeah when are they doing the visor recall? When one of them snaps off in your face when you get blinded and go to flip it down it is just as bad or worse than the clutch pedal. I've had one come off and be hanging by a wire in traffic, and blinded by the sun at the same time.

 

A little dark humor. My dealership is actually rather decent. Within 10 minutes of emailing them this morning, i got a response back with a copy of my receipt.

After I posted it, I was worried that somebody would get offended. Sorry, but nobody knows where the edge is until somebody has crossed it.
