Car Cover Lock

I've never had a car cover before, and I was wondering how the lock worked. It's a cable with a loop at the end and a metal fitting with a hole for the lock at the other end. The cover has two holes for it on each side.

My initial thought was that each end of the cable goes through each side of the cover. But I couldn't figure out how to secure both sides. I only have one padlock. So... how do you secure a car cover? Thanks.

I'll call the end with the open end the "loop" or "loop end", and the end with the smaller metal fitting for the lock the "lock end".

On one side of the car take the lock end, and put it through the hole of the cover. Run the lock end through the loop, and pull the cable through. That one side is done, so shove the lock end under the car to the other side.

On the other side, put the lock end through the hole. Then put the padlock through the hole in the lock end, wrap the end back under the car next to the cable. Hook the padlock over the cable, and lock the padlock.
