Mazda Smart Card

I'm getting a 2007 RX-8 Grand Touring next week. It comes with two SmartCards. With pressing any of the buttons on the card I get 0 response from the car; no lock, unlock, alarm, nothing. But the smart card has a red light that comes on when I press a button. But strange thing is when I press the black button on the car handle, the red light flashes on the SmartCard. I've changed the battery so I don't think that's the problem. Can anyone tell me what's going on. HUGE thanks in advance.

If the smart card lights up when I press the black keyless entry button on the door handle, does that mean the SmartCard is programmed

Small stuff first. Make sure you used the right batteries in the card, and put it in the right way. make sure you don't have your cell phone near the key as this can/will cause interference and will stop the key from working.

If nothing happens on the car when you hit any of the buttons on the key itself, as well as when you hit the request button on the door handle (i.e. locking, unlocking, etc.), then the keys have likely not been programmed or there is a problem with the advanced keyless antennas on the car itself.

This doesn't apply, he has a GT with advanced keyless entry.

Thanks Tyblat.!! I'm new to this rx8 community and I'm enjoying it already. So when i press request button on the handle the SmartCard lights up. This should mean that it's programmed?

Since you are new I wont nag you for not searching, but for future reference, I'd search ahead of time. The Advanced Keyless is a bit confusing because its so often confused by people with the regular system.

http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/manuals/06...highlights.pdf

Ctrl F and type in "Advanced Keyless"

If you press the request button on the car with everything closed and the key on your person, the doors should unlock. if they don't, the transponder either has a bad battery, there's problems with the system on the car side of things, or the key is not programmed.

Try sitting in the car with the transponder away from any cell phones, and try and turn the ignition. on the right pod of the instrument cluster there will be a key light that will flash red or green when you push the ignition **** to turn it. red = problem with the key. green = key is programmed and functional.

The system has multiple antennas on the car, and it uses the one that's giving the strongest signal to determine proximity. If on the off chance your drivers side antenna might be bad, this would rule it out by sitting in the car.

I did search, nothing came up about the light flashing on the smart card when pressing the door handle. But I will try all of your advice.
