I sold GTOs when they were new... they can be a wicked car when properly equipped. Conversely, they can be a rolly-polly pile of ***** if left with a stock suspension and bushings.

The new G8 really is no better, and has a woefully-soft stock suspension. Not really a 3-series beater in stock form, though the press loves them.

Yes, you do. I'm using Centerforce, but I've got a Fidanza one here in the garage which needs a new friction surface. I'll sell it cheap, if I can get another surface from Fidanza for you.

I took off when the light changed, ran up into third gear on the long straight portion of the ramp, then cruised through the sharp turn at the bottom. When I looked up in the mirror, about two seconds later after merging at a reasonable (to me) 75 mpg, I saw the GTO exit the ramp sliding to the left and countersteering right. Then the fool lifted off the gas, the rear tires hooked, and he fishtailed to the right, and then left again. He gained control (somehow) without hitting the poor Toyota Camry hi missed by about 2 feet, then continued down the freeway at the speed limit, thanking his stars he didn't scratch his $38,000 understeering Aussie-made super-saloon.

A GTO on stock front tires is an accident looking for a place to happen!
Oh I was just joking with ya man.

And, no, I don't think it's cool the guy in GTO did that... now, if you had run into me, you would have found out a GTO can corner pretty well by controlling that understeer with some very attentive modulation of those 400 lb-ft of torque.

Late apexing is your friend in the GTO.

Didn't they list the Goat as 5.9 seconds from 0-60 on those dinky stock Goodyear tires?
It was never sold with Goodyear tires. 17" BFG's and... get this... Potenza RE040's if you got the 18's. Hmmmmm... what other car was sold with those?

Stock LS2 GTO 0-60 is 4.7 seconds. Sorry to go off topic. Munkey made me do it!!!

T'was no street race... T'was an idiot and a GTO nearly becoming one with a concrete barrier due to his own stupidity. With speedometer error, I doubt I exceeded the posted speed limit by 3 mph.

A street-race is two guys lining up in the dark in order to prove whose Johnson is bigger to all of their friends with cellphone cameras and camcorders. Hmmm, like countless Evo and STI "roll-on" vids posted on YouTube and other sites.

A "street race" is what caused that Ferrari Modena crash in Newport Beach this past Wednesday.

I can't tell you how many times I've been cruising on the LA freeways when some yahoo in an Evo or STI gets his panties in a bunch and flies by me at 100+ mph. They act like immature racer wanna-bes... Idiots with more dollars than sense.

Sorry, no I didn't sell the original Goats... but do refer to the later ones as "Goats" too.

And 4.7 seconds 0-60? Damn! Scary fast on those brakes and 245 width 17" tires!

Controlling understeer with throttle-on oversteer is slow. Very, very slow in the corners. If you don't believe me, hit an auto-x course and drift through it. Slow.

I've watched a car with a blown motor DRIVE through a drift course following a car at full speed/full drift!

Now, if you ask me, that RWD conversion kit someone was making for the STI WRX... Mmmmm, now that would be a tasty modification if the rear driveline could handle the power without shattering!

Even though it ruffles a lot of feathers, I like this thread a lot. I've only been really into cars for a few years, but I'm still learning just how different pure numbers or theoretical benefits are vs. the real world performance.

To me that's what defines a ricer, someone who can't make that distinction.

I met some kid with a 04' WRX that said he runs in the 12's and traps in the 120's.

I told him I thought that was stupid, and that I didn't believe his WRX would trap in the 120's. Maybe he was telling the truth.

Don't know about trap speeds but I have seen a few WRX's in the 12's. That's not that big of a feat really in most turbocharged cars. But with Rx-8's there comes a cost vs. benefit factor. If I just wanted a drag car I could buy a buy one for the cost of the Mazsport turbo kit.

I know a guy who's neighbour has installed a Flux Capacitor on his 02 GDA WRX wagon. It manages to travel through time and effectively clocks 1/4 mile in the negative time scale. Pretty neat. The wagon format allows him to cart back interesting artifacts from the past too. However a 370Z FTL edition can be just as quick as it shifts space around itself. I hope the new 16x will be about as fast. But I doubt.

Forget about drags, the sti will probably beat the rx8.

But hey let's face it, the 8 isn't for straight line races, if you want hardcore acceleration and speed then go for your high displacement engines with high torque and high power like those european exotics or the american muscle cars.

The 8 is an elegant car that owns in corners, not in a straight line 'cuz it's not meant to be put in a drag race.

Interesting thread. Brings back the memories of owning both. Crazy how most modded rx8s can't even touch a stock STI, and even if they can, it takes a couple simple mods to make the STI out of reach. Shouldn't even be compared, as to even highly mod an RX8 to beat an STi with mild mods would cost a fortune. Just too different. Now if only they would make a car that looks like the RX8, and has the performance and mod capability of an STI.

Subaru needs to make a pure AWD sports car, and I'd have a one and only daily driver.

Jedi or Brettus, PLZ change your avatar man, it's confusing the crap out of me! I heard the new evo only put down a measly 230whp and Sexually Transmitted Infections put about the same or even a bit lower :O. Honestly I think if you had TeamRx-8s Car and a stock STI, my money would be on the rx-8.

Honestly, his car is just godly.

I'm not a fan of the Impreza's handling, it sure does have a lot of grip, but at the end of that corner, all you get is understeer and disappointment. The tires aren't that great, interior is worse than a Civic, and the suspension is meh for the front part. Honestly, I'd much rather have an rx-8 as it shows more of a class(no offense to anyone) and seems you've calm down from the TUNING world of ricerness.

EDIT: Nvm about the suspension part, it's the AWD giving too much power to the front
