can turbo 8 beat stock sti??
a turbo'd 8 would have a good chance against a stock STi.
Yes, but where would one find such a thing as a 'stock STi'?
First week would be a Cobb tune, next week the Green turbo upgrade and by months end it has gone from that silly top mounted IC to a proper front mount.......
....unless you could find someone in their first six days of ownership, you can pass on racing any STis.

Well maybe not that fast although lots of people have a sizable budget for mods although I’m not one of them. You have to figure that it costs all of $650-700 for an Accessport which will give you a 12%hp boost and 17% torque boost (OTS 93oct map estimates YMMV) while starting boost earlier. The stock tune is pretty bad IMO. So yeah I don’t’ think you’d find too many stock STI’s out there. And lots of people go stage two for another grand or so (pro tune and catted DP).
Speed just isn’t the feature point for an RX8, it’s Miata like handling with room for four. And is looks great!

For the pruposes of this thread a a turbo'd 8 would have a good chance against a stock STI. STI's typically put down about 225 AWHP and will run mid 13's.
The problem is not many STI's you come across are going to be stock. Mine's a family hauler that I got 3 months ago and I'm running a stage 1 map and a CBE. I wouldn't head to a strip or go against anyone really until I had at least a stage two with a tune, about 265hp and a fair bump in torque.

A well tuned greddy turbo 8 is making 250-260 AND is a lighter car .
In all but the first few metres it is no freaking contest ......
I could probably take a corvette in the rain when normally they would crush me.
If you’ve got the money and love the 8 I think FI is a great idea. While it’s not going to be a stoplight racer it will definitely improve the driving enjoyment. Who doesn’t like more power and torque? I’m already getting used to mine and want more, its an addiction.
What's funny is last year we had a GTO vs STi "grudge match" night at the local drag strip. There's one guy that lives nearby it with a GTO that ran 11.07 at 122, which is freakishly amazing, because it's a crappy track and they don't prepare it very well. I think he ended up scaring all the STi guys away.
They should have an STi vs turbo RX8 grudge match. Somebody organize it.
i don't see why this is going but eh, whatever.
STOCK sti will beat a turbo'd or sc'd 8.
but we will never find a stock sti...
almost anything turbo'd can have anywhere from 10-40 hp gain just from "chipping"

That's very cool. I bet it was up at 183 and 1431, right? I sometimes get out there.

I feel sorry that the last bastion of american muscle is encroached by Japanese small potters. And one that is not even a drag-racer to begin with but would feel more at home drifting around snow or muddy roads. I don't think I ever saw a Pontiac G-whatever or Camaro doing Rally of Tall Pines at all. How sad....
The point was that a couple of car communities could come together to find out who was faster in acceleration at various levels of modding. That's all. No forum threads based based on conjecture... measure it and prove it.
Ok. More education for the ignorant masses, er, delhi... the GTO is built Melbourne, Australia. It's an import. Second, the GTO is an ABSOLUTELY AWFUL "drag-racer". It wasn't designed for it either. But you didn't know that... so you're forgiven. Oh, and you know where you can stuff your Tall Pines.

Don't need to get all your panties knotted. It is an observation at the state of americana automotive is being siege by small displacement Japanese cars. That gotta hurt the mullet folks. But you are forgiven for not comprehending the above observations.
this comparison is not fair.
its turbo vs turbo, sure. but one car has to remain stock?
its going to come down to an individual car to car race. but we have rx8s with over 350whp. they should be running 12s. that dyno esmeril posted, 414whp, should be good for 11s. definitely good for 11s with drag tires.
