when I acclerate from below say 3500 rpm or so I hear this wheezing or whistling sound at the crack of the trottle. So I popped the hood and had my wife hit the gas a few times and I traced the sound to the throttle body. It almost sounds like a vacume leak - almost. What I think it is is the air whistling by the throttle plate resonating through the plastic intake section behind the throttle body. Will someone explain if this is normal. I couldn't find any loose vacume hoses.

I haven't heard these noises myself, but my guess would be that your throttle plate may be out of alignment. I've seen this happen on cars before, and it's an easy fix. Just take it in, should be covered under warranty.

Throttleplate out of alignment? This is such a sensitive item to a properly running car that if even the slightest thing were wrong with it, the car wouldn't run very good and you'd get a CEL. Since the throttlebody is electronic, you may be hearing the motor. In this instance something could be wrong even though it still actually fuctions but the problem won't be with the plate itself. If it were, it would show up anywhere regardless of rpm.

Hmmm, well sorry, the cars I worked on that had this problem were older, and didn't throw CEL's.

I notice this whistling noise also but only since I installed the Rotary Extreme intake, I have a buddy who notices the same thing with his RE intake as well, I just chalk it up to higher volumes of air entering the engine when accelerating.

my car is completely stock.

It only hapens the first 1/4 throttle or so, not at WOT.

Next time you all our in your car, drive with the windows down and listen please.

what you are probably hearing is the primary port jet air nozzles and / or the metering oil pump air ports. There are nozzles located in the primary port of each rotor. The metering oil injection nozzles also use air to assist oil flow into the engine. This makes a small vacuum leak into the engine and probaly is the source of the whislte or whine that you are hearing. the hoses are attached to the air intake pipe between the MAFS and the throttle body. its a perfectly normal noise. i first thought it was the air pump for emissions but have since learned about this. you can check yourself. figure out which hose is which by tracing them back from the intake to the oil metering pump or the block. with the engine running while you can hear the noise pinch the hoses off with a pair of pliers or something. if the noise goes away or gets quieter than its perfectly normal.

p.s. im not a rotaryguru but i have freinds who areit's good to have freinds who know this stuff
