Brought my car in for a CEL
They said it was a loose gas cap. I got it back and the CEL was gone but a few days later it came back. Is it safe to say that it is the same problem? I just tightened my gas cap by giving it a good 4 clicks but the CEL is still on. Somewhere I think I read that I should wait a few days and just make sure my cap is tight before I take it in again. I would take it in now but the dealer said they would charge me $50 if it is a loose gas cap again. Shouldn't this be under warranty? I just do not wanna fork $50 over because of my gas cap.

was the CEL gone after you got your car back. Actually I ever unplugged the battery, tapping the break to reset everthing, securely close the gas cap, hold the odometer. It will make the CEL gone temporarily. after few drives it comes out again. so my point is you need to wait until the CEL goes away by itself, you cannot reset it if it's caused by loose gas cap. I know this is weird and doesn't really make so much sense but that happened to me. it took me about 2 weeks to make it gone.
