Better fuel milage suddenly?
Just a noteworthy oddity...
I've owned my 8 for 2.5 years. I pretty much drive the same commuting route every day, and consistently get around 17-18mpg. Highway trips didn't improve things much, though I once managed to squeak out a low 20mpg run on a trip.
But... for the last few months, I'm suddenly consistently getting at least 21mpg for my commuting. Same route, same driving style. And we recently took a 200 mile road trip where I got 24+ mpg!
I cannot figure it out. I've done *nothing* new. No service, no flashes, nothing.
And get this: I still have my SNOW tires on the car. Yup, swear it. The air filter hasn't been changed in ages. I'm way overdue for an oil change. I run the A/C constantly. That 24mpg run was in 95 degree heat and includes being stuck in multiple traffic jams.
So I dunno, I don't expect an answer... just throwing it out there for amusement. It seems the key to better milage is summer heat, run the A/C, neglect your maintenence schedule, and keep the snow tires on year 'round...

The more miles I get on mine the better the mpg. I have 30k, how many do you have? My best early mpg have gone up by 3mpg at this time which is better then the seven rotary cars before it.

I sort oh had the same thing happen to me. I was over due for an oil change and I got 21mpg. I did the math twice to make sure I did it right. I have never gotten over 18 in almost 32k miles. I told my wife about it and later mentioned that I am going for an oil change the next day. She said, "for god's sake, don't change the oil if that is how you got the better milage." I reset my trip meter everytime I fill up, but I have not been checking the milage since the oil change. I will try to remember next time. The secret to "good" milage= never change your oil. I wonder if that will help your oil consumption too.
Oh, I just remembered. I also got the 30k service with the oil change. Great, now I will get like 12mpg!

10-12mpg average??^^^
That's hard to believe. I did a tank of hard driving and got 13.1mpg which is the worst I've had. On normal driving I will get around 18mpg. On long-distance cruises I get 21mpg. I have around 7k miles on the car.

It's the summer formula for gas.
How ever it has been reported that at a certain age MPG increases 15k to 20 k miles on car.
Mine went up. But I can also get it pretty low too.

I've started out averaging 23 in mixed driving so I'm pleased but it would be great if it improved on that with some more miles on. I have just under 7000 right now.

Typicaly, If I drive realy hard, I will still get almost 17mpg. If I was to drive easy (reletively speaking of course) I will get 18.something. I have been riding my motorcycle for the past couple of days. I drove today, so I will see if my milage has stayed improved.
