how about you sit in the car first... shut the door.. THEN stick the key in the ignition.

if you stick the key in first while the door is still open... it will continue to ding until the door is closed.

The probability of getting into an accident closer to your home is higher because you drive more often around your home. Just because the numbers say that driving 100 miles away from your house is statistically higher it does not mean that you are less likely to get into an accident. I'm about 95% sure about that but I've also read that 4.5% of the people in the forum are still scratching their heads about this fact.

Thanks to the mazda tech who posted offering to take care of this for me! (I'm in VA, so a bit too far ) My Mazda dealer disabled the "beltminder" feature, which is Mazda's warning system that goes above and beyond what any normal human being needs as a reminder to buckle their seatbelt. Now, it simply beeps for 6 seconds, which is plenty of time to remind me to make an informed decision about whether I'm heading out on a road, or simply driving to my mailbox.
