10 min test drive?!?, I went out for like 20-30 min highway and city(dealer just gave me and my dad the keys and said comeback when your done).
I just don't understand why people buy this car and then complain about power. Were you paying attention while you test drove it?

While the 8 lacks torque, keeping the rpms high in each gear gives you plenty of power on demand when needed.
I honestly believe the 8 is one of the most under-appreciated vehicles ever made. It handles extremely well, while maintaining a compliant ride on rough roads (maintaining great surface contact), it has neutral steering with more road feel than almost all of its competitors, it has usable space in the back seat for human cargo, luggage, whatever, it loves to be driven hard, has a rigid chassis, great seats, nice fit and finish on all interior components, and is priced at well below anything that offers anything near the performance (and a lot less than cars that handle far LESS well).
Is it perfect? No. Poor gas mileage, low torque and less than spectacular acceleration (good enough for me, though).
A Evo is brutally faster, but much more expensive and not as refined a daily driver.
It's within spitting distance of a 350Z in terms of acceleration and handles way better, at a lower price.
If the shoe fits, wear it.

My 8 right now is my first car
I love it, I mean it isn't a drag car but when someone tells me its slow and they have a 5.8 litre engine. I go mines 1.3. They instantly go wow

I kno this may take some slack on here but hear me out...
I'm a fan of the RX-8, have been since the prototypes started being shown but I'm just saddened when it comes to the power it has, don't get me wrong but the car handles like no other but I can no longer justify keeping it for that reason alone
Maybe I was spoiled having a 93 RX-7 in the family and that is why I'm letdown but I think I'm moving on to the car which was my close 2nd, the 350Z
I hope Mazda can rebound with their next RX b/c I will easily come back if they do

The Z is .5 seconds faster than the 8. If .5 seconds in straight line speed is important enough for you to disregard all the other superior attributes of the 8 (looks, handling, braking, rotary, rev range, smooth shifting, steering response) then you may as well just buy a Stang GT or some other V8 and get much more in acceleration than a Z.

i am very dissapointed with the reliability of the car and the lack of power, i love the styling and feel in the curves, but i lose more and more love for the car every month. Esp when i find something else have fallen apart or has broken, or when i think of how much it has depreciated in the few months i have had it ... I feel your pain, i had a 300whp TSi, a wrx with just 3 things done to it(turbo back, MBC, and clutch) that ran 13.4 in the 1/4 and an R6 in the last 5 years. So i know what you are feeling

and i love how everyone compares cars like they are a race car driver. not many people on this board can say they have lapped a track in a race prepped car. Or have even auto x'd there car (i have only been on the nurburgring a few times so i am not saying i do those things) so why talk about how much better handling is and how one car can lap a track .1 seconds faster than something else, so therefore in your hands it must be superior too lol...

That being said, even avreage drivers that can't get the performance that pro's get, still know what fun feels like to them. (from one car to the next)
The 8 is fun to drive. When I autocrossed an 8, I had just driven my Z on the same course. I did't notice the power difference too much, on course. The course was pretty open and allowed me to keep the rotory on boil most of the time.
I might feel differently if I had to DD an 8. I'm sure traffic might not allow the revs to stay high all the time, and catching the rotary at the bottom of the tach can't be as good as getting into the throttle at 7k.

I am completely disappointed in the RX-8.
Bose calls that piece of crap a stereo system? What the hell was Mazda thinking putting a gutless, underpowered stereo like that in a car like the 8?

This guy is intelligent. First he buys an 8 even though he was well aware it didnt have the power he wanted.....then he actually starts a thread on an 8 forum griping about the car lacking power and how he wants to get rid of it? Could you make urself look like a bigger moron?
I mean really. I will never understand why people start threads that point out there mistakes and stupidity....only to blame it on the car.

sorry about your luck man.. too each his own, although I'd say you have bad taste in driving style. A nice shiny 'stang should do you just fine. Or maybe a rx-7/ls1 swap. You will regret it if you get a Z though.

So you don't like the RX8 due to it's power, that's OK. But my question is have you learned anything yet? What makes you think a quick test drive in the Z is going to tell you about the Z? If all you want is torque then you really bought the wrong car, especially if you had a 93 RX7 to compare to. I don't think the Z is going to give you what you want in a car and you are going to be complaining on the Z boards in 6 months about how poorly the car handles and the horrible interior noise.

just because you are on an rx-8 board posting something does not mean it has to be a gushy thread about how the 8 is the best car in world. If he is not satisfied with it he just wants to see how many others feel the same way, no need to call him a moron...

and to the comment about the cars i had before. The one car i owned after i sold my bike was a 95 golf with facory 90 hp, but after the 200k + miles that had been racked up on it, it had about 70 i am assuming. You could feel the body twisting, at every turn. So i had for about 9 months between my bike and 8. Going from that to an 8 i love the car i just feel the quality is not like i was expecting and the i have gotten used to speed. You get used to anything though. I even got used to going 160 on a bike so...

yesterday I wanted to eat a sandwich with meat but I bought one with vegetables because I thought it would have the same taste. WRONG!! I am very disappointed. Damned vegetables, how the hell should I know they don't taste like meat. Sorry for hijacking but I thought that I should share. Maybe some of you feel the same.
