anyone else disappointed with their RX8???

I kno this may take some slack on here but hear me out...

I'm a fan of the RX-8, have been since the prototypes started being shown but I'm just saddened when it comes to the power it has, don't get me wrong but the car handles like no other but I can no longer justify keeping it for that reason alone

Maybe I was spoiled having a 93 RX-7 in the family and that is why I'm letdown but I think I'm moving on to the car which was my close 2nd, the 350Z

I hope Mazda can rebound with their next RX b/c I will easily come back if they do

I'm dissappointed with my reliability, but not the car itsself. Its not that much slower than a z man, just a lack of torque. Do whatever u want i guess. I dont think u should be flamed on because the rx8 wasnt for u.

Well, test drive is suppose to tell you if the car is right for you. It is not really acceptable to be dissatisfied if the dealer didn't force you to buy the car. You had other options yet you bought the one you did not like as much. That is like telling someone that you want the other sandwich after you took a bite of the first when you got a sample of both sandwiches beforehand. Choose before you buy, be a wise consumer.

I guess the fact that I have 110,000 miles on mine means I am not disappointed. What exactly is this lack of power causing me to miss out on? Dusting riced out Honda's at street lights?? Big deal I can live without that. When ever I need to pass something all I need to do is shift into 3rd. When ever I go to road courses so long as drive the right line I can keep up with most cars.

Not only am I not disappointed, I couldn't be more pleased with the car. Unique, and truly special.

How much power do you need? The car has plenty of power for everyday driving. You bought the wrong car if you want speed.

How do you like that stereotypical response?

If your biggest complaint is power, I don't know why you bought the car in the first place. Didn't you realize how slow the car was when you bought it?

I knew this post would generate alot of negative responses

how is a 10 minute test drive supposed to tell me if a car is right for me?

Anyway, that is the decision I came too, maybe I'll regret it, maybe I won't

Like I said I guess I was spoiled having an RX7 around and the RX brought back so many good teenage memories that I was partial to the RX brand and that was my determining factor

You need to get the 8 on a tight twisty road to realise that more power is not really necessary . Like Expo says if you are into straight line drags the 8 will dissapoint you . If you are doing that a lot you really did bye the wrong car .

I think you'll be disappointed with the 350Z.. I mean yea your going to gain some extra power, but you'll loose everything in practicality.. Everyone seems to say it's noisy inside (in a bad way), and that the ride quality sucks..

For you other guys, why recommend the FI?? It seems to me that the huge amounts of money vs the lackluster gains makes the turbo completely not worth it unless money is no object and you just like the car..

Too many people associate the term sports cars with speed (and then again, most people simply equate that with acceleration). If you know going in that the car wasn't going to be the champ down at the strip, then you should be good to go. I've only had my car going on 4 months now, and continue to enjoy it.

I don't blame anyone for switching rides (as long as it's not 2 weeks/months after purchase, that's just complete lack of research). If it's not for you, live, learn, and move on.

Nope. RX-8 is not for everyone. Otherwise it be a Civic. Z is great. But I was disappointed with the circa 2002 Altima interior.

I am disappointed by RX-8 owners that didn't take test drives before buying their cars...

But there is nothing I am disappointed about on my RX-8.

I test drove the car but anyone going from a RX-7 to an RX-8 would surely be a little bit letdown

I didn't do as much research as I should, I will admit that but just b/c the RX8 isn't what I expected doesn't mean I wont return to an RX when the next one drops, if it does but I kno there are alot of people in the same boat with me but I'm assuming most of them passed on the car while I gave it a chance

I have nothing bad to say about the car but I just don't feel it is for me and maybe the Z won't be either but it's for me to find out

I can't believe how many times I hear that the 8 does not have enough speed.
It does not have enough power for what? For drag racing in a 1/4 mile? Hell go buy a full blown V8 if you are into drag racing.

The 8 is a car for driving, for feeling the road and for handling, it is a unique driving machine. It not like any other car on the road. If speed is your main need then forget the 8.

Let me ask you? When does it not have enough speed for you? Are you going to a track on a regular basis? Or you into racing rice burners big blocks at red lights?

For me it is a perfect blend. I love my 8, and when I get to old to drive it I will hand to my son who loves it more than me.

^^^I'm in the same boat as you, but I've had my 8 for 4 years. I've had plenty of issues with mine and I'm on my 2nd engine, but I still love the car. I think the thing that disappoints me more than the lack of torque is that mazda doesn't seem to be in any hurry to do anything about it. I won't hang on to this car until the 16x comes out, so until then, I might look into a used z for a couple of years and then go back to a higher powered rotary when it comes out.

The Z handles like a tug boat next to the RX8 btw - I drove them both.

Being a new owner I see what you are saying. I love the car! But I'm not going to say that there are things I don't like. I did test drive a Z before purchasing the RX-8 and there is no way I would have purchased it.

im glad someone else sees how I feel, I wish my sister didn't sell her rx7 but she got a hell of alot for it back in like 2001, close to 25K so I guess I cant blame her since she was saving for a wedding

and my plan isnt to completely forget about the RX, im going to buy like a 2003 and save money and hope Mazda makes the next RX more like the 7 as opposed to the 8 or somehow can combine the two

My biggest compliant is acceleration which Mazda needs to address b/c if they dont I bet the next RX doesn't do well but I'm liking forward to see what they will do
