I test drove the car but anyone going from a RX-7 to an RX-8 would surely be a little bit letdown
I didn't do as much research as I should, I will admit that but just b/c the RX8 isn't what I expected doesn't mean I wont return to an RX when the next one drops, if it does but I kno there are alot of people in the same boat with me but I'm assuming most of them passed on the car while I gave it a chance
I have nothing bad to say about the car but I just don't feel it is for me and maybe the Z won't be either but it's for me to find out

MAYBE instead of looking at the negatives like you are, look at the postives. if you still dont like the car, its not that that car isnt enough for you, its that you arent enough for the car (by expo1)

People get it so wrong comparing the RX-7 to the RX-8.
RX-7 = hard core sports coupe. Almost no compromise
RX-8 = soft core sports sedan. Plenty of compromise
Just because they share a rotary engine.............. well, enough said.
As for dissapointment.
Screwed up dropping the power levels on the Auto 4-port
Screwed up on the production design of the (ever failing) coils
Screwed up on tiny AC compressor & its poor output
No bitching about the fuel consumption as you have to pay for the fun somewhere

Having gone a few weeks without a turbo in my RX-8, I know exactly where he's coming from. My car feels really slow just because I'm used to the higher power levels. Of course, a test drive would have told him that within the first 60 seconds.
Slap on a turbo and you'll have more power than the 350Z and you don't have to take a hit on selling the 8 off. The car totally rocks with FI. Torqueless wonder no longer.

I will never understand why people that don't like the RX-8 still post here to inform us about it. Will we love less our car if you say it's not as fast as RX-7???NO

Depends on the RX-7. Some of us are faster than some of the 7's already. And as time goes on, the power levels will become a lot more equal.

幹他媽!
overall i still love my 8. but, i'm disappointed that i got an 05 because
a. i didn't get nice fully-wrapped leather seats.
b. i didn't get keyless entry as an option.
c. i didn't get shinka suspension as an option. (wasn't available except on shinka model itself.)
what i liked about the 05:
a. navi isn't crippled while driving- even tho it's a pos anyways
b. cassette was still an option.

1935 lbs. FTW!
I bought mine on a whim due to the extreme discounts and the new car/warranty factor. I regretted it for about the first 6 months of ownership then came around and really liked it. After a while I did not need a car with 4 more seats and I sold it. Overall it was a good car and it was an interesting experience owning a rotary but I don't miss it at all. I may be back if the 09 RX-8 has a much more efficient engine.

RX-7 was just an example, both RXs are enough fast if you are a good driver, except if you are for straight line street racing which is not exciting imo, and if it's for this then you bought the wrong car 100%. (This goes for the guy that started this thread)

I'm sure I'll get whatever the 16x goes into. The reason I might get a z until then is not necessarily all because of the power, but I'm already on my 2nd engine and now my trasnny is starting to give me trouble. I have 53,000 miles, so the tranny is still under warranty, but what if after 60,000 I end up needing another engine? I'm not gonna drop $4000 for another rebuilt engine when the car is out of warranty. I'd like to get rid of the 8 before the warranty runs out and really would not be interested in another 8 because I'd essentially be buying the same car since no engine changes have been made since it came out.

See I also think that it is lame that people think the FD was the only RX-7... when it was the only RX-7 that failed too sell. It hardly should be considered even in the RX-7 family.

Remember even stock, the RX-8 was faster than every model in the the first 15 years of the RX-7.

There is no point to make every thread like RX8 versus the whole world.

Before I bought my 8 only a few weeks ago, I drove the 350Z, Infiniti G37 and the Mazdaspeed 3. All of them have more power and torque than the 8, but I still bought the 8.
The 350Z was crossed off my list very quickly. Besides it's extreme lack of practicality, it felt like I was driving through a foot of molten tar. It's the only way I can think of to describe it. I'm sure there are people out there who love the way the 350Z drives. Personally, it felt heavy and quite slow, although I know it's actually quick. I did get a chance to push it and just found it a totally uninspiring drive.
Personally, I would have bought the Mazdaspeed 3 or the Infiniti G37 before I bought the 350Z. It was a bit of a let down because I initially was really into the Z.
To each his own I guess.

Areyouin, make sure you take your next choice on a longer test drive. And force yourself to be objective. Too many buy/sell deals and you would have been better off finding, buying and restoring your sister's old RX-7.
Interesting that the rest of the package lured you into buying one even though the power wasn't what you wanted. Speaks well for the 8, but if it's not what you want it's not a keeper.
My own RX-8 test drive was about 10 or 15 minutes, and it sold me. I still had a few other cars on my list, but the next evening I chucked the list and called the dealer back. Next afternoon Zoomy was mine.
No dissatisfaction. Well, just one: not enough gizmo storage space in the cockpit. My sunglasses, water bottle, cell phone, parking key card, etc., all have to cohabit the cupholders. But aside from that I'm pretty much a poster boy for the "The little things" thread.

I'm disappointed you didn't do any research on the car before you purchased it. Everyone knows the lack of power is there, you can't honestly try to tell us you thought it would mysteriously be able to stand up to your standards of "fast"? Not all of us give a damn about going in a straight line, it takes a lot more skill and is a hell of a lot more fun keeping the car in the power band while taking advantage of the cars amazing cornering ability.

I LOVE MY STANG but my girl's RX8 is a blast to drive. I'll take her all day off the line but come time for the twisties her 8 is a lazer guided/on-rails beast.
The only issues I find are the low end torque and the mpgs but that's because I hate shifting out of 3rd & 4th! That's why we got the xa for commuting
How could you not like the RX-8? I would love to try a SC'd one.

You test drove it, felt its power (or lack thereof), bought it, and now getting rid of it because you're disappointed in the power? Did you expect an increase in power after you bought it?
