Any young people with this car? 20ish.

New poster here, age 20. Worked and saved money for 2 years now I'm ready to buy a used 2004-2005 Rx8. (i will have to finance abit though). I will have it insured on my father's insurance so insurance won't be a problem.

I just want to know if any young people drive this car, and if there is, I want to know your experience with the car. Since I am the only boy in the family I will be doing everything on it myself (both my sisters drive camrys and i do all the maintenance on them)

also, anyone here from NYC? if so how much do you pay for insurance? I want to compare it to my father's insurance.

any suggestions welcome for a new club member. =)

23 here and everything is in my name...so being a 23 year old male with 2 speeding tickets on my record = raped to death with insurance.

I did mostly finance since I didn't have too much extra money, but then again, my RX-7 was in the air more than on the ground, so I was a little "rushy" in getting this car.

*EDIT* He's not a teenager, though, Photo Chick!

21, bought my 8 in September 2007 brand new, paid for everything myself.

Not a single regret, I love how it drives and will never be more satisfied by a car. I'm young so I thought, what the hell, might as well enjoy my youth. Getting paid well enough to afford it currently

Great MPG, cheap, great resale.

If you get the 8, you will have to take a lot of care of her, possibly be in the shop often, deal with crappy service, and then there is the mod bug...i've spent many K modding my car. Thinking back on it, it would have been much easier/simlper and cheaper to buy a civic, and more reliable.

i love my car, love the handling, the looks, love the overall driving but its not as fast as i hoped and its so damn expensive between gas insurance cops and mods. then you gotta deal with all the losers driving crappy civics trying to race you everytime they get a chance.

I am in NYC, I am 21. I pay $150 a month with State Farm, I'm alone on my policy. I have something like 10 discounts going for me though.

NYC ? :o

I suggest you NOT to use ur father's name to get ur insurance. cuz when something happens, they will sue your father for SURE and your insurance might not cover it simply because you never told insurance that are the driver.

A lot of people think they can save some money by using parent's name to register. but the fact is that, you save money as long as no accidents ever happen. Just like selling drugs, if nothing happens, u will make/save a lot of money, right? but when something happens, you'll be fuxked.

You should not get this car for ur age, for you, I suggest you get a beat up civic.

why ?

first off, insurance alone going to rape you, expect 4K or more a year. Even I paid more than 3.8K when I first got my car brand new 3 years ago. Full coverage. and I was 25 that time with no ticket on record. After 3 yrs something my rates finally down to around 2K a year.

second, this car is not something that you will be able to maintain for your age.

so, get a Mazda6 like u said, and be happy with it.

^ I got really lucky on insurance here in NYC. My parents had been on State Farm for nearly 10 years so when I opened my own insurance policy our broker gave me the benefit of the doubt I guess. My parents absolutely positively did NOT want me on their insurance policy for the simple reason that they didn't want to get their insurance fuxed by anything I did. They didn't want me to get the car period. Worked my *** off till I could put a sizable down payment and long enough to build up enough credit to get financed under my own name, with a relatively good APR.

Well I see your points, very well said. But I'm a very careful driver and never have been in any accidents, I will not use the rx8 for racing, the only performance mods I'm even considering are exhaust/intake, other than that Im just going on visual mods.

as for insurance, whichever car i get will be on my dad's insurance, so it won't make a difference. and as for the prices, my dad has 25+ years of clean driving record and currently has 3 cars under his insurance, i'm sure it will be alot cheaper than 4k if he insures my rx8.

and many users here are 18-20+ and they maintain their car just fine, why would it be any different with me?

but yes, you do have alot of valid points. and I am still considering the mazda6, mostly because of the rx8's mpg and its resale value, as a previous poster stated. also, spending alot of time in the shop does sound like a pain in the neck. thanks for your input and i will take everything into consideration as i still have a few weeks before i make a final decision.

I'm 24 and have had my 8 for almost 5 years. It's an 04 WB MT now with 81k on her (all my miles). I've done my own maintenance and mods. Had some help of forum members in my area (Thanks Nashirak and OD).

I pay for the car and have my own insurance. State farm full coverage w/ decent deductibles runs me around $150/month (cheapest insurance i've ever paid on a car).

Other than gas putting a dent in the wallet, I've loved all 81k with my baby. I plan to love her for many more years to come.
