I was 22 when I got mine, 24 now and love it. Tho I've been working with rotaries since I was 15 when I found a 79 RX-7 for $100.

why ?

first off, insurance alone going to rape you, expect 4K or more a year. Even I paid more than 3.8K when I first got my car brand new 3 years ago. Full coverage. and I was 25 that time with no ticket on record. After 3 yrs something my rates finally down to around 2K a year.

second, this car is not something that you will be able to maintain for your age.

so, get a Mazda6 like u said, and be happy with it.

4k a year?!? yikes... i am 23 and I just bought a 2004 GT 6spd and am currently paying about $110 a month or about 1300 per year, and I thought THAT was a lot after I sold my maxima which I had been paying 800 per year. i also have no tickets or accidents on my record, there must have been something about you that yelled 'street racer'

and what do you mean by not being able to maintain an RX-8 at his age? he doesn't have the means financially? or the mechanical competence?

i personally think that an RX-8 is a great looking car and is fun to drive, but is REALLY impractical, and therefore a better car for a young owner without a family to support or kids to drive around. unless you use it as your weekend warrior.

I'm 30 going on 31 and feel like I'm 25 still....does that count? BTW I am having more fun now(especially with the women) than I thought I would have had when I was in my 20's. See, at age 30 you can date the younger girls and the older ladies with no problem. lol

$1300? How the hell do you get such cheap rates? I'm 20 and I got a quote for an 2006 RX-8 MT and its $7400 (CAD) a year. No accidents/ speeding tickets/ not even a parking ticket.

here's the deal, i have a stable part-time job because i am a fulltime college student so it's hard to work fulltime, make about about $1000 montly, i don't pay rent/bills, all i will have to pay is for my phone bill($100/mo), a SMALL credit card bill($50/mo), car payment(estimated at about $200/mo), and insurance. and ofcourse everyday things like food, gas, clothes, ect.

has any young person, with a similar montly budget and expenses, been able to keep up with the rx8's cost of ownership?

again thanks for everyone input.
I am nearly in your exact situation. I pay my parents $260 a month and pay for gas and groceries on a part time job quite comfortably.

Well I'm 23 so I have 2 years on you. Also, I have a college degree (BS in Engineering) so they know I'm not an idiot who will be racing around the streets (I'm not saying you are, lol, I'm just sayin'). I have a full time job making pretty good money. Other than that, I don't know what makes my coverage lower... ?

Location would be my first guess...rates vary by location along with many other factors.

I am an engineer, but I don't think that helps the rates. My insurance droped about $15/mo when I turned 25.

17, saved for 11 months working part time to pay for the car in cash. Best way to do it. It's the nicest car I have ever been in / driven, so it was hard work that paid off.

I just want to know if any young people drive this car, and if there is, I want to know your experience with the car. Since I am the only boy in the family I will be doing everything on it myself (both my sisters drive camrys and i do all the maintenance on them)

also, anyone here from NYC? if so how much do you pay for insurance? I want to compare it to my father's insurance.

any suggestions welcome for a new club member. =)
