Aftermarket Cat Converter Question

I have an 04 RX8 with a bad cat, I was looking at purchasing one off Ebay or maybe the Racing Beat one... (links below)
Will I pass Pennsylvania emissions with these? Should I just search for on OEM cat?

I don't want to waste $ so thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

1. holy mother ! they took the stock cat pipe, cut the front & end. and replace it with some off the shelf cat converter pipe. It might work, but god knows how long will that last.

2. you need to learn how to read, Racing Beat never had any CAT converter. its a Dual Resonated Race Pipe.

You should be able to find a stock/OEM used CAT for pretty cheap. People dump them like trash even tho it worth some $$$$

Lots of people have used the Rotary Performance Supercat and have good things to say about it, here's a link

I have used it and passed emissions in TX.

With that ebay pipe, you have no idea how long the cat or resonator will last. A rotary engine exhaust is about 50% hotter than that of a piston engine. Also, this isn't listed as a hi-flow exhaust. The RP Supercat (from RX7.com) will give you a few more hp.
If you want to make your own, you can get a plain midpipe and have a Davesport hi-flow cat welded in by a good muffler shop.

where in pa are you located? do you know that pa emmissions are just a visual check to make sure the cat is there and a gas cap test which is attached to our car anyway so it shouldnt matter. do you know cats are under warranty if you are under 80k from the dealer? you could just knock it out. if you are close enough to me i could make you an appointment for emmissions or if you really need i can lend you mine since i run a mid pipe.

Thanks for the replies.

Is the supercat legal? Would a mechanic shop put it on? I'm not tech savvy so I can't do it myself.

I'm near Bristol PA... and no, I did not know that, I'm new to the state.

I'm just out of warranty and they wouldn't bend even though I'm at 83k

Living near the Philly area you are subject to emissions check that they use a plug-in to your ECU. As long as you do not have any active emission codes showing up you pass. PA no longer requires an end of pipe emission testing.

Can anyone tell me if the SuperCat is really loud?

I can't seem to find any recent threads about it.

While I don't have one on my car. I know others that have it and have followed them in a caravan with some aggressive driving thrown in. I didn't think it was loud. I would consider it pleasant. It would also emit a nice little blue glow, out of the tail pipe during a shift, at night.

I've been wanting to get the RP Super Cat for a long time, but the only thing putting me off is when I get my car inspected, will they fail it. I'd have to assume not, but damn if it's not in the back of my head.

Thank you much... I'm going to purchase one today, I don't want to cause permanent damage by holding off much longer.

I asked the auto shop here in PA if it would pass inspections with the SuperCat and he said yeah it 'shouldn't be a problem'.
Maybe I should call a different place then one I asked about the install.

nothing special about installing a SuperCat. Its just a Cat converter with fewer cells.

Any auto shop can install it. assume that they're not retarded.

take a look at this thread
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/catalytic-converters-cats-cats-cats-210330/

This shows every cat available. People seem to have a lot of success with the davesport cat, that several midpipe manufacturers use. Supercat uses the magnaflow cat that seems to fail at low miles.
