catalytic converters, cats, cats, cats

I have just processed all the options for replacing the catalytic converter on the rx8. There wasn't one place that had a list compiled for all the options available. I thought I would start one. Hopefully it can be added to the sticky in the aftermarket performance modifications section. This list includes all catalytic converters as well as finished cat included midpipes. Hopefully anyone looking to replace the stock cat can find an option that suites them. Please add the to the thread and I will edit my first post.

This post does not include cat delete options look for midpipes instead of catalytic converters.

I will also warn that some of these converters range from great, ok, to absolutely poor results even for NA setups. I only wanted to present facts on this list so no reviews here, do a search under the title or manufacturer and you can find more info. The CEL status included was taken from reviews but I only included solid results. This included 95% of reviews stating that there was no CELs displayed. So i took my own digression there but for the life the of cat how over long that was ... there was no CEL codes displayed.

Another warning that even though some of these cats didn't display CEL codes they might not pass a sniffer test, so california and some other areas that do sniffer tests please do some extra research. My emissions test only includes a odb2 check and gas cap check so I don't have to worry about that.

If the product includes pipe, o2, and hardware it is essentially "bolt-on"

Front gasket, nuts and bolts are all included. I think the rear gasket gets reused .

It can be ordered from Japanparts or any HKS authorized dealer, probably best to just list HKS' website

Thanks for starting this thread. To contribute, I believe ExoticSpeed also makes a cat for the RX-8. I have no first-hand knowledge of quality, performance, or accessories. $599 USD for either one.

I've actually got one of those.

It works well, but cops don't like it because of its noise.. I got towed for having it on my car Also, fitment may be a TINY bit off, the resonators rub on the heatshield for the driveshaft (I think that's what the black thinger is).

In regards to the rx7store cat. I have one and spoke with them before purchasing. When they originally released the cat / midpipe combination it came with the Magnaflow cat. However they had alot of problems with this cat failing so switched to the Davesport. They told me they haven't had one come back since. This was the deciding factor for me when I was comparing the rx7store cat to the RP.

Damn is BC really that strict? Over here they'll try to give you a ticket but unless they can prove exactly what's on your car (which they usually can't) then they're SOL.

I've been towed twice :P

Once for having no cat ( Came around the corner, and a cop said that he could smell my catless rotary ). Another time for not getting a vehicle inspection a few days after that..

Vehicle inspection places aren't as easy to find as I thought they'd be.. Some of the guys I called said things like, "If your car is lowered or has rims, I won't pass it".

I just got an email back from sales that it is the magnaflow cat. Is there a place that sells this cat directly. The cat offered for the rx8 on magnaflow's website states doesn't match up to the one other midpipe manufacturers are using.

btw added cspi and type metal or ceramic. Most do not specify although I would guess that 99% are metal.

I also sent an email to HJS for a price on there Cat. I didn't realize they had a British version of there site until after I filled out the contact form. Really had to dig deep to old college German classes.

The ReAmemiya cat is pretty sturdy, it will take a lot of abuse without breaking. You can easily poison it though especially in stop\go traffic.
The build quality of the whole pipe is what you'd expect from ReAmemiya and the sound is not excessive. It doesn't drone with a mazdaspeed dual canister exhaust.

Hope this little informations help.

So no CEL codes I suppose. Does it come as a "bolt-on" component when you buy it. o2 bung, hardware etc

Absolutely no CELs 'till I poisoned it. It was my fault though, one long WOT run after 2hrs of stop and go traffic to cover 20kms.
It comes with a good new gasket but i can't remember if the bolts were included. It is a 100% bolt-on product anyway

You might be able to send TeamRX8 a PM to see an estimate price of the HJS. IIRC he has experience with them.

It is only available from a European source, so the price will be changing constantly with the value of the US Dollar/Euro. Any price quoted will be a snapshot in time and be uses as an approximation.
