Go to: Mazdausa.com -> Owners menu, Warranty option. Pull this up on your smartphone or print it out if the dealer really doesn't know what they are selling.

Powertrain Limited Warranty
Mazda warrants that the Powertrain Components of new Mazda cars and trucks will be free of defects with normal use and prescribed maintenance for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Ordinary maintenance items, adjustments, parts subject to normal wear and certain other items are excluded. This “limited warranty” is transferable during the warranty period on all new Mazda vehicles sold and serviced in the United States.
RX-8 Rotary Engine Core Limited Warranty Extension
Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage on Rotary Engine Core Components on all RX-8 vehicles produced after the 2004 model year. The warranty coverage for the Rotary Engine Core Components is extended to 8 years (96 months) from the original warranty start date, with a 100,000 mileage limitation. The following is a list of components covered by this warranty:
- Rotary Engine Core
- Rotary Housing and Internal Parts
- Internal Seals and Gaskets

The warranty increase sucks for me cause mine would have gone out last year. My motor is messed up using oil and cuts off and will not start again till I let it sit awhile. Only have 75,000 on it. It seems to cut off after it has warmed up mainly stoplights. I paid $14,000 for this car. I heard there was a recall on the motor up to 100,000 miles. But Mazda says no only warranty 8 year-100,000. I am so screwed now. Does anyone else no what could be causing it to cut off and use oil. Oil pump or vacuum leak maybe?
I am a single woman. I did not know about troubles with the 2004 Mazda rx 8. There are some things that were broken that was on the list of recalls and warranty issues. But since my 8 years has gone by there is no way to get them to fix these things even if it is a hazard like air bags and heat shield. I never got a notice prob cause I moved a lot. Any help? I guess I cannot buy and extended warranty now since it went out in 2012? Thanks for any help. Battery has been replaced and struts

Correct, it was a warranty extension, NOT a recall, 8yr 100k.
Are you aware that there is an expensive and complicated system in the RX-8 designed to deliberately inject oil into the combustion chamber? So yes, your RX-8 uses oil, this is entirely normal and expected. Your engine wouldn't last long if it wasn't injecting oil.
Stalling has many possible causes. Ignition coil failure, spark plug failure, plug wire failure, O2 sensor failure, compression loss, vacuum leak, MAF fouled, ESS fouled, fuel trims messed up, clogged cat, clogged air filter, recent battery reset, bad gas, etc...
We can help you, but it really all depends on how much you are able to help yourself too. We can only give you advice and directions to take in pursuing a fix, and we are only going to be as accurate as you are clear and detailed. So far, you haven't given us much to work with on what the problem might be, so we can only really give you the basics: Ignition replacement, compression test, and sensor cleaning. Doing this at a dealer is going to cost you $1,000+, but it is very easy with simple tools if you, or a friend/family member, has the motivation to do it yourself to save hassle and money.

For the extended warranty on the engine components.... Does it cover 8 years and/ or 100k Miles?
Or
Which ever comes first?
The reason I ask is because I have 2004 Mazda Rx8 with 65xxx Miles. It has just now started giving be engine problems.
So does this mean I can or can not have my engine replaced under warranty rules?

Alright I know how the warranty works but I am wondering if the 2009+ models are coverd as well. I just purchased a 2010 rx8 r3. Compression test was at 305 rpm with numbers all higher then 9.3 paper work is at the house. But am i under the 8year / 100,000 mile power train warranty? Does anyone have a 2009 they have taken in? I heard the 2009 r3 go bad fairly quickly. I would guess the 2010 is probably the same way. I am not saying they do go quickly but it is what I have read on this forum. And on this warranty I see they want to some times see the maintenance being done. I prefer to work on the car myself is that going to he an issue with the warranty? If not what do I do just save the receipts?

You haven't read much of the recent thread posts I see.
This is an exact duplicate of a post I made earlier on this very page, although I highlighted red the answer to your question:
Go to: Mazdausa.com -> Owners menu, Warranty option. Pull this up on your smartphone or print it out if the dealer really doesn't know what they are selling.

It's usually stored a few posts before the last one since people never read, I can just copy and paste from there. It's posted 3 times on this page.
The new owner's thread is my notepad really, I created it when my notepad grew unmanageable . That post is in the re-make of it that I'm working on.

Plugs are $80, coils are $140+ (depending on what you go with), wires are $40. Takes an hour to replace with basic tools even if you don't know what you are doing. Dealers like to HOSE people on both the markup and the labor.
#1289
yeah it's super easy to DIY BUT does that void the extended warranty not be able to show records of maintenance. Or will receipts work ? I will run by on Saturday and check and talk to a guy but I feel like they would just lie to me. Eaither say yes receipt of items are fine. Then motor blows and they say I have not done maintenance. Or tell me no receipts for parts are not acceptable . Just to make money off of me.

Go to MazdaUSA.com, owners section. Create a free account there with your VIN number. Go to the maintenance history section. Click "Add Record" (or whatever the button says). I added all maintenance I did on my 8, and when the dealership asked me for records when my engine failed it's compression test, I pulled up the site and page on my tablet and showed that to the rep, he asked for a copy so I saved the HTML page as a static page, then sent him an email right there with the HTML file as an attachment.
Legally you only have to provide a record of maintenance. Doing it yourself won't legally void a warranty. It's not beyond possibility that a dealer could give a DIYer hassle, and they certainly will give a DIYer more hassle than someone that services it at a dealership all the time, but considering dealers like to charge a total of around $1,300 for the coil, plug, and wire replacement, chances are you will spend far more in oil changes and ignition replacements than the cost of the engine, so even if they don't accept it, you are ahead financially. Not to mention far less time wasted waiting at the dealership.

Extended warranty?
Ok there is so many threads out there with warranty information I wasn't sure which one to post onto so I decided to try this one out regarding warranty.
Ok so I just bought my 2004 rx8 about 2 weeks ago, it now has 82k miles on it and of course being a 2004, the warranty is long gone.
Now a few days ago I get three different letters from 3 different places offering extended warranty, 2 of them saying I could be covered an additional 100k miles or until 2017 and another states 100k miles or up to 2018.
I have no idea if its worth looking into or which one I should call?
i'll list them for you guys
1. Department of Motor vehicle services Mazda
2. Benchmark auto protection
3. No name, only number andwhat could be covered but does list coverage until yr 2018

The ones that send you mailers are pretty much universally never worth it.
Go ahead and contact them for pricing, but it's generally something in the area of $2,500+ up front and $200-$400 a month for 2+ years. It is exceedingly rare that the cost of purchasing a warranty from one of those mailers is LESS than the cost of replacing the engine out of pocket. I've checked up on them periodically over the years.
If you definitely want a warranty, then looking for a company yourself is going to produce better results, but still probably isn't going to be worth the price alone, not to mention the risk of them not paying.

I'm going to be dropping my car off at a local mazda dealer to take advantage of this warranty, however I was asked for maintenance records But I've only had thecar for about 3 monthswhen I purchased it from a dealer. What can I do here any suggestions am I going to run into any complications when it comes to this warranty

Yeah, providing maintenance records is going to be difficult. About your only chance is to let them know that you just bought it 3 months ago and don't have the prior owner's maintenance records. Usually dealers understand that this happens, and don't make it count against you automatically. They could still deny you for lack of records, but frequently they allow coverage anyway.

Just received the news I never wanted to get. The engine in my 2004 Rx8 with 82K miles needs to be replaced, along with new clutch, coils and plugs. Total cost: $6,600+tax .
Repair costs are more than the car is worth running well. To me, doesn't make sense to replace the engine at this point. Looking for other options. Only option is to scrap? I obviously need to maximize the amount I can get for the car. Appreciate suggestions.

For what it's worth the Mazda warranty isn't worth the paper it is written on.
I took my RX8 in before the eight years and before the mileage. I had them do a compression test. It failed. They won't replace the engine. I have exhausted all avenues to have it replace except taking them to court.

Have you contacted Mazda USA? Some dealers will try to just blow you off. Definitely not the majority.
My engine went at 113,000 and my dealer got on the phone and cut a deal with Mazda for the parts. I only paid labor, around $1,000. They could have said "get lost, you're over 100K". It all depends upon the dealer and their level of customer relationship and their relationship with Mazda.
Don't give up.

Sometimes in life you have to do that. If you have a case (miles & years), a decent lawyer will make them settle and replace your engine. Or get damages on contingency.
