I've got a question... i just got an 04...... is the car still covered even tho theres a new owner? Do I need to contact the dealer and switch the warranty over or is it for the car regardless of who owns it?
#1102
i would say you are still covered as long as the car does not have over 100k miles on it..if it does then you would be out of the extended warranty.
#1103
well its got 85,000 on the body and about 5,000 on the new engine..... so I should be good to go...... I either gotta really beat the **** outta this motor and blow her up before 2012 or take it easy on her and normal driving.. lol Just kidding. I could NEVER intentionally blow her poor heart out.

they didnt ask me a thing about service records, but when i bought the car in fla in 2008 i bought the maintence package with it, so im sure there is a way mazda can go to them and see the maintence history on the car. but they are replacing the engine, should have it back on wed hopefully. Going from an rx8 to a rental of a dodge caliber is not a good thing..lol

No bitching !
Did they record your "complaints" over the last 70.000miles? Were the complains followed by some proof like a compression test?
If the answer is yes to one of the above then you may try to contact MNAO and file a complain.
If all you did was bitch with the stealership without anything written on paper then you're out of luck, you may still try but it will mostly be a waste of time.

There was no bitching at all. i was very respectful and the manger seemed genuinely sorry for me. I will try calling MANO and see if they might help me out.
BTW, thanks for the quick reply. great forum.

I'd really appreciate some advice/info for my situation.
I bought my car new in 2004. After around 30k miles, I noticed a lack of power. I brought it in to the dealer, they did the compression test, and I received a reman'ed engine.
It's been driving fine until now, currently at 72k miles. I've been noticing the same problems again. I brought it in to the dealer today and asked about the extended warranty; if I'd be covered should my reman'ed engine fails another compression test.
I was told the extended warranty wouldn't cover my engine because it was already replaced. And that when they replaced mine, it only came with, I believe they said, a 12k mile warranty? Is this really the case? Am I just **** out of luck?
(This was the Russ Darrow Mazda dealership in Greenfield, WI)
Thanks in advance,
Ken
Edit: Thanks for the response, SilverEight! I feel quite relieved now.

SupaDupaKen, Unless things have changed, that is not correct. I had an engine replaced at 58,000, 97,000 and it needed one at 107,000. They would not cover that one.
It is my understanding that the 12,000 mi. covers you if you need it past 100,000 with an engine that was replaced at, say, 97,000 mi. At least that is what I was told. At 72,000... you should be covered.

Update
My car has been doing great since the new engine. But I found out a couple of things this weekend I thought you might find interesting.
I pulled off the battery cover and noticed that they tightened one of the cables so much that they bent it, and STILL, you can turn it on the post. Lucky I havent' gotten stranded because of that.
Also, and the best yet, my car has had a K & N air filter since I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. I bought the kit to clean it and when I went to take it out, surprise, they had replaced it with a stock, paper Mazda filter. Yep, that's right, they took my K & N filter. Well, tomorrow I have an oil change appt and I can't wait to hear their response on these two issues.
Can you believe it?

Well, they replaced my battery terminal, and were very apologetic about the fact that they took my K & N air filter. They immediately agreed to replace it but couldn't find it locally and have ordered it with next day air. They did tell me, however, that they are not allowed to install it because Mazda would void any warranty work with it in there. Funny. It was in there before when I got approved for an engine.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I have a '04 that is almost at 98k. I called my local dealership to see about a compression check and was asked if I had my service records. I have been changing the oil myself, have most of my reciepts laying around somewhere, but I use 5w-30 instead of 5w-20. Will they say that my warrantee is void because I didn't use the manufacturer's recomended oil? Also, they said the compression check is $183, does that sound reasonable?

No!
That's way to much for a compression test.
Find some one local on craigslist probably like 50 bucks.
Compression check's are easy.
you might even want to attempt it yourself.

US Vin in ontario engine Warranty
I recently went to the Local mazda dealer (Northern Ontario) and was told my warranty is not the eight year as I have an american VIN. They said it was five year 60000 miles and had expired a couple of years back.
Does the extended warranty apply to both US and Canadian vehicles?

Here is a pic of about 5 or 6 Rx-8s that were all getting new engines. When I picked 05 Gt up there was a total of 8 or 9 Rx-8s all getting replacements. It is now on it's 3rd engine and runs better then it ever has but I've had experience with rotary engine since I bought my 91 Rx-7 so I don't want to hear that it was my lack of knowledge or care for the car. When I bought the car 3 years ago I was unaware that it was on it's 2nd engine at 34k miles. I'm selling the car to get something with an auotmatic transmission so my fiance and I can share the vehicle and she wants to be out of the Mazda game.Don't know why the pic is not showing up?? The car is listed in the for sale section of the forum and it just has received a new clutch as well.

i had these questions too and i asked someone who had her engine replaced, according to her, as long as you keeps most of ur oil chnage receipts and not using synthetic they wont mind, they even recommend her to use 5w30 even though the oil change they done was a 5w20 iirc. well its worth a trip down the mazda authorised service center and runs all the checks, u might get urself a new engine too
