if i bought a used rx8 that has abotu 20k miles - THEN i have the dealer install a Mazdaspeed intake/exhasut and at some point before i get to 8 yr / 100k my motor blew up... would theyd try to screw me and say the MS parts did it..

or does Mazda stand behind their MS products...and would they cover that situation?

If that's all you've done, and the dealer installed MS intake and exhaust..............you are golden.

there is a fully loaded 06 GT near me. even nav, appearance, spoiler,e tc. 19k miles. i can get it for 19-20k.

only thing i would add would be intake/exhaust and maybe suspensio - lower it, and add sway bars. i figure with those mods, it woudl be one fun toy. ij ust don't want to deal with warranty issues caused by mods.

My car needs another new engine. It's beyond 4 yrs old at this point by a couple of months, so it is under the 8 yr/80k mi warranty. You do not get a loaner car with this warranty. It has taken a week and a half to decide to honor the warranty. Now I have to wait at least another week till I get the car back.

That blows. I would have assumed they would provide a loaner if the work/replacement was honored by any of the warranties.

That's inexusable.

Jeremy Barnes has posted on here with specifics about the extended warranty, and I think you should send a polite but firm email or letter to Mazda North America requesting a rental.

An update, I stopped in at the dealership yesterday and a new engine hasn't even shipped yet.

Still waiting.........

When I originally had the car towed in (at my expense), Mazda started looking for a way out of honoring the warranty. First they wanted a record of all my oil changes. These were all completed at that dealer. No problem there. Then they questioned my Mazdaspeed "Lightweight" flywheel. I guess they figured they couldn't blame me for having that. That was the only mod on the car other than the Corksport Catback. They didn't try to blame that. It took them all that time to decide they couldn't blame me for the failure. Between ride sharing with my wife (she works in a different direction than I) and my son (he works evenings) it hasn't been easy, but I've gotten by so far.

Jeremy Barnes probably considers this site a nuisance. Experiences like mine wouldn't be heard of. He only came here because of our size and he thought he had to, to keep Mazda's reputation.

I really feel bad for you, how many engines have it been now....4? It is crap like this that makes me really feel that this is my last Mazda. Such a shame that such poor management can ruin a company that makes such nice cars. What dealer ship is trying to screwing you over?

as long as the original owner didn't have the warranty voided, then yes.

Call MNAO or take it to any Mazda service department (or inspection) and give them the VIN and they can tell you or print out for you a list of all warranty repairs or recalls done on the car. This information would include if the warranty is voided. It's not likely, unless perhaps if the previous owner had installed a turbocharger or supercharger or something like that.

Sorry to hear about your engine. These stories about multiple engine failures are disturbing, but I'm hoping that you'll get new engine from Sleepyz/Mazda and perhaps such stories will become a thing of the past.

But the most disturbing thing about your story is how the dealers still try to wiggle out of warranty claims, often with high replacement 'diagnostic' expense to the owners. That is obviously not a thing of the past. At least they did not require you to pay for new coils, plugs, etc, I assume because you have been on top of these things or they required you to pay for these things prior to previous engine replacements?

Despite promises to come back the next day, Jeremy hasn't been back in 3 months so what does that tell us? I would second the idea of emailing him just to make it less easy for him and Mazda to turn a blind eye on how RX-8 owners are being treated.

I don't think that is a solution. The problems are centered to the engine it's self and not any other part on the car.

robrecht, Sleepyz has posted that the other rebuilder is now out of engines. I guess that I am cough up in the change over period to his shop.

I know, that's why I'm hoping that these stories of multiple engine replacements will be a thing of the past. But I'm also interested in the other aspects of how the Mazda dealer has treated you during these multiple engine replacements. Prior to your previous replacements, did they require you to pay for coils, plugs, etc?

This might be an opportunity to press them for a new engine rather then a rebuilt engine. I'm sure it would be a hard fight but given your history you have a reasonable argument.

Hey everyone,

Been almost a year since I have been on the forum. Life happens!

Anyway, driving home from work yesterday and my 04' GT blew up. Everything was fine then all of the sudden leaving a stop light (normally) the dash lit up like christmas and the car bogged down like the throttle was disconnected!

It promptly stalled at that point and rolled to the side of the road.

I tried restarting and it will start but it will eratically bounce from 500rpm to 2500rpm and if you try to feather a little throttle in the car will nearly stall. Smells EXTREMELY rich during the period and cannot really move the car.

It has 68,000 miles on it and a Umnitza CF Intake and Agency Power CB Exhaust.

My dealership is really cool and said they do not care about those mods because they haven't thrown a CEL. They have been servicing it since 14000 miles when I bought it 3 years ago and have performed ALL warranty work on it including after the mods.

I'm thinking this sounds like an Apex Seal. Anyone have any other speculations?

I have complained about 8000 miles ago about very slow starting and lack of power but they weren't able to pull codes for that.

The battery, starter, catalytic, plugs, plug wires upgrade were all done to it about 40000 miles.

Im sad about this as I really haven't had much issues with this car till yesterday.

Insight anyone?

Start praying that is is just a coil that took a dirt nap. I don't want to give you false hope, but mine did almost exatly the same thing and I thought the engine was toast. It died and then was very hard to re-start. When it did the revs went way up all by itself. It either ran ragged at a very high idle or not at all. A quick check with a timing light spotted the problem. My number one coil was not firing at all. Checking the plugs the number one plug was completely fowled over with carbon. It must not have been firing fully or well before the coil finally died. Short story for me was I fixed it myself for about $30 bucks with a new coil. My 04 has almost 98k miles on it now and is still running fine. I hope the same for you.

The first replacement engine was a new one straight from Japan. It failed. Coolant leak into the rear rotor.

Update: 3 1/2 weeks and I should have the car today or tomorrow. The engine was to arrive yesterday. Point of origin is unknown.

Thanks Muscle.

Where did you get the coil? I have plugs that I bought to have just in case as well.
