People think that Usain Bolt is fast. But he took 9.69 seconds to go 100 meters.

The RX-8 can do the 100 meter in quite a bit less than that, from a standing start. From a roll, it's even faster.






"Fast" vs "Slow" is just a matter of what you are comparing it to. In which case, people will always compare that which they love against that which they don't...and is slower, or that which they wish they could have...and is faster.

 

In it's price point it is slow in most industry standard tests. That's not bashing the 8, that's just the truth. The problem is people expecting it to be fast when 10 minutes of research would tell you it is not. Is it slow? No. But compare a fully loaded 2011 RX8 with a 2011 370Z, STI, Mustang, etc. and it will get demolished in the speed department.

In my opinion, when most SUV and trucks can keep up with your sports car, it is slow.

 

i'll say this i consider my car slow and it runs low to mid 13s stock...for <30k you can get a car that can easily do 12s. So whether its 13.7 or 14.1 or 14.3 the rx8 is not never was and never will be a dragster, and lying about getting a 13.7 seems to serve no purpose, oh wow you can almost keep up with a stock Z, congrats? even if you got your renesis up to 400hp its just not gonna be a ten second car.

i freaking love the 8 but turning it into a drag car is supremely idiotic, and a 13.7 is nowhere near fast on the strip no matter how you slice it. and lying about it only really just makes it worse. congrats you lied to a community that used to give you a modicum of respect.

 

RX-8 is like the slowest sports car in the market atm. The only thing it can out accelerate is the miata and its not even a big gap either... lol

so im gonna go ahead and stand by my statement that didn't imply that 10s were impossible out of a renesis but that it would take more than 400hp, and to get over 400hp are there gonna be enough stock renesis internals left to continue calling it a renesis? and from that thread while it sounded possible that he could get it that fast, the sheer facts showed that he was having trouble keeping it in the 12s.

 

How many cars with 400hp run 10s lol?

 

None that I know of, I don't even think a gutted CRX HF with 400HP would run 10's on drag slicks.

My thoughts exactly. When the 8 came out in 2004, it was very competitive with other sports cars in the same price range. Now in 2011, it has fallen way behind and is no longer competitive. However, considering how cheap you can get them used...it is still a pretty good bang for the buck. Would I buy another one as is?...no.
