300 miles RX-8 Problems

Hey all, I'm new to the board and I was wondering if you guys can answer some questions. Last week we bought a brand new Velocity Red 6-speed with the GT package and the spoiler. The car had 180 miles when we picked it up. Here come the problems:

1- CEL on since we got it
2- At 250 miles I was driving it *quickly* (7500 rpm) for short spurts, and the coolant boiled over, the temp gauge was at normal. Had to add about 1/2 gallon of coolant.
3- Now its in the dealer after the CEL was reset, they're fixing the cat converter.
4- In neutral when you let the clutch out, the car seems to make a different noise then when the clutch is in.

We get it back on wednesday, so i'm hoping for the best. Has anyone else had these problems? Can you point some stuff out for me? I'm a total nub with this car. Thanks in advance.

One... why are you driving the car at 7500rpms with only 250miles on the motor.
Two... How long were you at that engine rpm b4 the coolant boiled over. Also what gear was it how fast basically?

7500 rpm maybe 2-3 times, thats it. I did not even think that this would happen. I think that the guys who were cleaning it the night we bought it maybe loosened the radiator cap or something. The only reason that the coolant sprayed was because the cap wasnt tight when i opened the hood. I tightened it up, and now i plan on getting a MazdaSpeed upgraded radiator cap.

EDIT: I dont know if it boiled over, but the coolant was definatly out of the holding tank. I knew that rotarys were hot engines, and I KNOW that the gauge wasnt reading above the middle. The coolant low light came on right when I pulled into my friends driveway.
