I replaced my rims with RAYS-Gram Lights and I don't have the proper adapter for the TPMS. Anyway, those sensors are pretty sensitive specially during winter when it gets pretty cold. To answer your concern about the eBay price on the new ignition set, I think if you could fork-out a few more hundreds you should just buy the BHR set. I don't own the BHR ignition coils, but I believe it will include new spark plugs and wires if you purchase it from them. Check the For Sale thread and inquire with them...

OMG I am sooooooo conflicted. My son is nearly 6 and is too big for the back seat any more. I can 't take him plus my partner in the front passenger seat. I need a bigger car but I love my '8 sooooo much and don't want to sell it. Can't afford to just buy another car and have the RX8 sit in the garage. Anyway, I need to make the 100,000 mile club yet! Guess I will hold onto it for a bit longer.......

rx8t20046sp, just curious, have you been running 5-20 oil in your car all these years, or did you switch to a different weight? Thanks.

Yes corso I have been running 5-20 conventional oil for 8 years and 150,000 + miles. I use Mobil and Bosch filter# 3300. I change every 3-5k miles and keep it topped off. I'm really lucky I guess after hearing about others troubles.

Oh one more thing I use BP 93 octane with NO ethanol. Here in KS it's about 20-30. Cents more per gallon but worth it in my opinion cause ethanol, which is in all grades at 10%, reduces gas mileage. Not a lot but I notice I get better mileage out of a tank with the non ethanol ultimate 93 octane. I can get 290-320miles on a tank.

It might be the fact that he is in a child seat. It makes him sit a bit higher and his legs don't fold down so easily (child seats now mandatory for kids in Australia). With an adult in the front seat and the seat pushed back a bit so the adult has legroom, the child gets squeezed in the back.

Original Owner of 2005 GT Pearl White - just turned 110,000 this week.
Tire sensor light is flashing on (for over a year now)
The coolant level indicator is on (stuck since I have checked it numerous times)
Just this week the Airbag indicator came on - any suggestions for that?

I have:
Changed the oil religiously every 3000 miles with YES 5w20.
Changed the coils and plugs every 30,000 miles.
Replaced each rear coil over (had to fight for it but extended warranty covered them in the end)
Have her washed/waxed twice a month and detailed completely once a year.

I live in Houston, Texas 100 plus heat and drive the crap out of her on the freeway daily!
I've had her 140mph with still a little left to go...

Although she is number 26 on the list of vehicles owned, I truly think she is my favorite.
(My 1979 Datsun 280Z was a close second though)

I think it's time to buy another one!

So here is a new one... my RX-8 is a dedicated race car that had 88,000 miles when I converted it years ago to a race car. Today it turned 100,000 miles during a race and promptly broke. Not at 99,999 miles or 100,001 miles - I mean EXACTLY at 100,000 miles. Some kind of bad miss... still haven't been able to fix it even after changing coils, plugs, wires, cleaning crank angle sensor, checking for air leaks and checking compression (engine is still strong). Mystery.

That's whack. Sorry to hear that.

On an unrelated note, my motor is getting stronger with time, which I have been informed by the inner sanctum of rotary heads is to be expected.

I plan on focusing on frequent oil changes with conventional oil & high quality oil filters (I like Purolator PureOnes), frequent coolant changes (every two years; 3 years max if no depletion), high quality NGK plugs and wires changed every 30k miles, staying on top of coils, and air filter changes every 30k miles (just put in a fresh Wix).

I am of the opinion that a much higher % of failed motors have been automatics, which only have the single oil cooler vs the dual oil coolers of the manual (and MANY of the failed motors were automatics driven in extremely hot climates like Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Texas, etc.), and that heat is a big enemy of the Renesis.

This is just my SWAG based on what I've read over the years. I know failures have happened across the board, but I would be surprised if catastrophic failure of the Renesis that's properly maintained is significantly higher than some other sports cars, including a more than quite a few IMS-plagued Porsches.

2004 Lighting Yellow 6 speed manual.
Original engine 115k miles, new transmission at 75K miles.
I'm the third owner, second owner was a very good friend of mine car has been well maintained, I try to give her nothing but the best, mods? Race Roots ignition system at 105K miles, Tanabe GF springs at 105k miles, Hawk brake pads all around at 98k miles, no cat!at 98k miles lol, red top Optima battery at 98k miles, new a/c control unit at 105K miles, new engine mounts at 114K miles, switched from 5w20 natural oil to 5w40 synthetic oil (Castrol) change oil/filter every 4k to 5k miles, changed air filter at 98K miles, new fluids (coolant oem, transmission and differential redline) at 105k miles, got the latest pcm update from mazda, nothing but 93 octane gasoline, check oil level/top off every 10 to 15 days, also I red line it at least once a day.. and never shift under 3k rpm, always let her warm up 5 to 7 minutes after first start up, my 8 has been a JOY since I got it (feb this year) yeah yeah a few minor problems but nothing a little research job, know how and cash can resolve, preventive maintenance is KEY to keep your 8 running like a CHAMP!

Cheers to you all!

Well, it is official! I had the car towed and dropped it off at Lucky 7 Racing for an engine replacement this weekend.

That's the only time it's ever been towed, the last time I drove it was the day after it's anniversary(July 29th). I had an oil leak while I was driving on the freeway, heard the metal shavings sounds. It was pretty obvious at that moment that it was the end and it ran it's last mile; officially clocked out at 167,305 miles in it's Original Factory Engine.

I'm at 86,000 and haven't had any issues with it yet. replaced plugs at 40,000 and need to again. I'm going to replace coils soon as well. the car has been up to 140 mph before with no problem and the other week I topped out at 125MPH. not sure whats wrong but I'm guessing either coils, plugs, or cat.... or all. any other advice would be great Thank You

I'm at 105,000 with my 08 Black 6s. I change my oil every 3K and top off half a quart every 800 miles. I rev my 8 to 9K rmp everyday at least once. I switch off between 5w30 (winter) and 10w30 (Summer). Currently my issues include the radiator sticking, tire pressure, and the neutral switch (Error still on but not effecting much except for cruise control not working). Still loving my car!!

Well I just hit 100,000 at the last track event during one of my time trials sessions.

I'm on the original motor, it made 173.9RWHP on a DynaPak at 90,000 miles with AEM intake, BHR Ignition, BHR Midpipe, Espelir Catback, AP Underdrive Pulley, Grounding Kit and Cobb AP with MM tune. The engine feels like it's tired but still pulls alright. I got it at 76,000 miles in April of 2011 and have averaged about 2 track events a month since August of 2011. Only complaint is that the front main seal is leaking and getting annoying.

Just hit 136k of New England driving on my 2004 (bought new). Only major problem was replacing catalytic converter. Use 5w30 exclusively, changing at about 5k miles and 89 octane fuel. Car still runs like a top and looks like new.

117k Miles here! I didn't hit the milestone myself, I bought into the 100k club at 115k miles a few months ago. She has problems that need fixing, which I'm in the process of doing. Even with all the problems I still love her the same.

- Already needed alignment off the lot (70k miles later than should have been done, fighting the car to keep her from pulling me off the road)
- replaced oil pan b/c old one was not stock and hard to change filter through the top around the engine
- previous owner took poor care of the car, currently replacing all damaged interior + new sound system
- Getting new cat
- Ordered new SSV solenoid valve
- Potential for engine rebuild, will get compression test to start planning
- Replaced throwout bearing to stop annoying whirring
- Leaky tail lights were previously drilled to drain, so I re-sealed the gaskets + sealed drill holes
- Changed Transmission fluid, was filled with chunks of metal shavings and debris... really wonderful
- Still need to replace ignition system, will order BHR kit asap.
- Body has a few blemishes that I will address after the larger problems have been cleared up

^ Honestly I'm surprised that with the way the previous owner beat her so bad that she didn't give up. I'm just glad he sold the car before it was really too late. It would have been a shame to take another 8 off the road for good.

Hit 160,000km last week. 2007 model original owner. Just put my second set of tyres on her too - got 85,000 km out of the original factory bridgestones and then 75,000 from replacement Michelins.
