1/4 mile times and HP
wow....the rx8 has a 13b renesis rotary in it...you should probably just drive it like its any other car until you learn a lot more about the rotary and cars in general.
i have a 04 rx8 6sp and i raced a bmw 330i all stock and sadly i got sorta smoked. they the rx8 is suppose to have 238 horses and i know the 330i has a bout 230. in that case it should have been a close race but it wasnt

can't stop laughing from that
my moms suburban has like 400 something horsepower, does that mean it should smoke me because i only have 232? take into consideration weight of the car, gear ratios, torque, coefficient of drag and so on.
im 18 i know alot about cars and where im from their are no tracks and its pretty dead at night cops never come around. but i raced a 350z once and beat it but i think the guy wasnt a good driver but not my fault. when i raced that 330i i was low on gas and my gas light came on. ive seen were rx8's are getting 189 hp on dynos when it say they are suppose to have 238 i mean i know it will drop but dang i dont think that much
wow..you do not know anything about cars. it might be 238 to the crank but it is not 238 to the wheels. even the cars that dyno in at 189 rwhp are not stock and have some upgrades on it. basically to brake it down to you, the engine has 238 hp at the crank but it is not all tranfered to the wheels. rear wheel horsepower (rwhp) is what matters.
being low on gas would be a good thing when you are racing because that means your gas tank is light and does not have all the added weight from gas in the tank.

i was on the free way and a wrx sti was in front of me going 80 kms . i pulled up past him going 120 slowed down to his speed reved up honked the horn 3 times and i was in 2nd gear going 80 kms when we punched it and cars where neck and neck up to 140 - 150 then we had to slow down for traffic. cars quick if u get the gears right

My point is the Evo and the Subby Sti are similar in performance and there is no way you guys were neck and neck. please do NOT attempt that move vs an AWD beast.

So how much power do we have anyway?:
Officially, the RX-8 produces somewhere between 228hp and 238hp, depending on what publication you look at. Mazda kept revising the numbers, but the engine's actual output never changed. This is for the 6 port manual transmission engines. The automatics produce less power, because of their lower redline. The 4 port automatics produce around 192hp, and the 6 port automatics produce around 212hp.
This is all measurements at the crank. The actual power put down at the wheels is significantly lower. Completely healthy 6port MTs put down about 180whp and 130wtq. The auto's are correspondingly lower.
Now, what does this actually mean?
Well, first take a look at the numbers. Notice how they are lower than an Evo's 300hp rating. And they are lower than a Mustang's 260hp-340hp.
This means the RX-8 is SLOWER in a straight line.
If you buy an RX-8, do NOT be shocked that you won't win at the drag strip. If you want to win there, buy a different car. If you buy the RX-8, don't come crying to us later on. We bought the car knowing full well how much power it produced. Those of us that want more do something about it. We don't create threads to whine about it. You can join us in flaming the people that do create threads whining about it, because you were smart enough to learn first. They weren't.
