'05 battery dead at 48k.

Lately, my starts in the morning were getting slower and slower, I figured the battery wasn't holding a charge.. I thought "I can get another week out of it." Famous last thoughts..

Yesterday, driving a friend around to get a distributor for his altima, well, all those short little trips fried what was left of the battery. Died in a Pep Boys parking lot. How fortuitous.

Dropped an Energizer into it. In the middle of a raging thunderstorm. At least the hood acted as an umbrella Now starter sounds fast, way fast, faster than new.

Please, Mazda -- don't *EVER* short-change us on the battery again. This one, the original OEM for 04-05 was very, very thin, even when new. That's not what I like to see from you guys. These cars run hotter than a piston engine, perhaps you should use an AGM-type battery, in the trunk, like the first Miatas had. Keep it away from the heat in the engine bay.

Did you have the flooding tsb done?
If not, take it to the dealer and say your car flooded, and almost didn't start.
Then you will get a new battery, plugs and starter.

i did the TSB and got the new battery (made by Interstate, fyi), but it started leaking within 2 years and actually destroyed my positive terminal, had to buy a new one, but dealer did replace the battery under warranty though lol

Go to tech section. I think the finishline performance has the Mazda form.

Fill it out and you may get your 50 bucks back.

After 2 days with the Energizer, I still have to say it spins faster than the OEM battery ever did. Fit was OK, the Energizer's a bit shorter but there's enough thread on the retaining hardware that it works fine. Poles were in right place.

I never did the hard start / no start tsb.. still ahve original starter, but have new plugs. The new battery makes the old starter spin like crazy. 5 turns per second? Car starts in 3 "ruhs" now where even when new it took 4 or 5 or even more.

Of course, now it's raining so hard and so much I need a boat, not a car.

Because the car didn't have starting issues until the lame-*** OEM battery started not holding a charge. I don't like any mechanic, mazda or not, dorking around with my car if there's nothing broken on it. The original starter works fine -- provided it has a good battery feeding it.

Fit was OK,
Since you mentioned the heat in the engine compartment...take a look at the "Battery Replacement" TSB at http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/bulletins.html . It shows the the cooling air flow through the battery box, and how the battery should be located.

I'm having this problem right now at 49k miles. My positive term is eaten up by battery acid and my battery is bulging. Is there an underlying issue here or is it just bad batteries? Should I just get a new battery and pay prorate or complain til I get a free one? I'm not sure what to do. This all happened two days after the alternator in my other car went out

if u're still in bumper to bumper warranty, go into a *good* dealership and starts bitching.

Its not ur battery is leaking, cuz its *normal* to have acid build up around the Positive Terminal, I cleaned mine like 1/2 year ago but I forgot to put some grease around it, then 3 days ago when I open the battery cover I was like *whoa*, its all there again, the blue-ish stuff, lucky I found it b4 it did any major damage, I cleaned it and this time I put Vaseline on it. Yep, Those hand lotion it works to keep those stuff from building up.

Yes it does. It was either I buy a new battery or get a jump start home. Which is why I'm actually happy to be out of warranty.

if thats what my dealership told me, I will say *f-U*, get a jump start, and buy my own battery.

of course I will stay away from that dealership for the rest of my life.

Well doesnt matter, I got everything, battery, starter, flash, free.

Damn time is fast ... 2 yrs something already ...

Im going to get another battery after this year. Probably Optima Red top or Odesessy

for instance- did you ever check to see if your trunk light was staying on by opening the pass thru door?

I've always used Interstate Batteries in my cars. The only time I've had an issue that needed the battery to be recharged, they just swapped it out immediatly at no charge, great customer service. I have an MTP-35 in ($75), what ever battery you choose, go with something that has at least 800 CA and 600 CCA. Less will work, but for a little more the starting difference is big.

Red Top Optima are great, but my friend at Batteries Plus and the guys at Interstate said unless you have a huge audio system or can get it at a good discount, they're not worth double the price.

Ok this is very interesting to say the least. Mazda replaced my battery for free, reminding me that I've had a battery replaced already(I forgot lol). So they say my battery gave a defect code that they had to send to Mazda. Now I'm at 55,000 roughly and my battery is dying again. Of course the battery is warrantied cause I just got it a month ago, but damn. Is this really happening. 5k miles into new battery and it's dead. Should I just keep getting them to replace my batteries for free. What the heck is killing my batteries, this is about to be #4 when I take this one back.
