Question Manual or auto up to Canada?

I'm a new (ish) driver from Calgary Canada, and I'll be buying a car from the states and importing it within the next month. I'm pretty set on the 8, only thing is I've only driven a car with a manual tranny twice before and I'm not very good (I still have to rev the engine before starting so I don't stall out). Everyone I ask says go for the standard, but If I'm driving up from NJ and I find out once I get the car I can't drive it I will pretty much be screwed. I don't have time (or a car with a manual) to practice more, so I don't know what to do. I can either stick with the safe option and sacrifice performance, or risk it and buy the manual. I'm stuck right now

make sure you know what you're getting into with importing from the US... there are safety requirements in canada that are not required in the US.

also while some cars are cheap and worth bringing over, i had a friend who paid 10,000 in import fees.

Always get the MT. First gear is the only one that's difficult.

The future is hub driven electric motors with no transmissions at all. Automatic transmissions are crap any way you look at them except for ease of use.

nah, as noted, auto's are hte past... electronically operated manuals are the present, as well as CVT's, and some sort of flying is the future....

Automatic transmissions are simply too inneficient to be the future. A torque converter si one of the worst things ever invented. BY DESIGN they lose power, with no way of finding it....

I wasn't very experienced with manual before I got my car and in fact I made my dad test drive it. I then spent the next 2 days getting used to it and by the end of that week I was just fine. Nothing wrong with auto, but you will have a little more fun in the manual.

automated manuals are the future. but the auto rx8 has a torque converter which is a big fat bucket of fail.

take the risk. once you are on the highway it shouldnt be a big issue. ask the seller to give you a few lessons.

manuals also have more hp than the autos.
