New RX-8 Owner

Tomorrow morning, I pick up my 05 Velocity Red RX-8 from the dealer. Frankly I don't think I've ever been so excited about something haha.

Haha I look back at my anticipation and I felt the exact same thing. It was my first car purchase that I handled all on my own so it was a big deal to me. Good luck with it tomorrow and don't forget to post pics and stay active on here

It's a 05 6 spd M/T, I think pretty much base model everything, but it's gonna be the first I'm buying by myself, so it's new territory for me, and I'm excited for it...pretty much can't sleep right now. As soon as I get it back to Austin from SA, I'll take some pics. Thinking of that, does anyone in Austin know of a good place where I can get the stock rims powdercoated? I'm thinking the red will look amazing with black powder coated rims.

Congratulations! I still love my '05 as much as I did the day I brought it home. Hope your experience will be the same. But read as much as you can so you know how to take care of the Renesis, and it will take care of you.

I do have a question, as I was playing with it, the transmission seems to grind the 1st to 2nd shift if i shift at really high rpm's and slam the clutch. Yet, it doesn't when I double-clutch, so is it a flawed driving style on my part?

Just a word to the wise, and this is prolly a needle in the haystack type thing, more than likely nothing to worry about, but there has been a red RX8 2005 base model in SA bouncing around from dealer to auction block to dealer to auction block to dealer......

I no longer have the VIN# and........I HIGHLY DOUBT THIS IS YOUR CAR......but regardless, good idea to give it a thorough checkover by a good rotary mechanic.

Yeah, I'm gonna go to Mazda South and have them check it out. I don't think the bouncer was mine as far as I can tell. The dealer said it was a trade-in, and from the carfax its just been traded.

Yeah, and the one that I saw was bouncing from dealer to auction block starting in early March

The scary thing about it is it was 2005, under 45K miles, listed for about $14,000, and although I never got a chance to drive it, something must be wrong with it to not sell at that price and for dealers to take it to auction every 30 days. The scary thing is someone somewhere will prolly buy it eventually and prolly have a big mess on their hands.

Wow...hmm, I hope that isn't mine, because it was traded in, in March. The carfax just doesn't show that it has switched dealers. I'm gonna be livid if it is, either way the Mazda dealer naturally has -0- rotary techs working on Saturdays so I'm gonna have to get it checked out on Tuesday. Still under warranty full warranty though, so that's nice.

I probably first saw it at Red Mccombs around March 15-20. (the wife totalled her car on March 11th, so I am just guessing.) The sales person claimed it had been on his lot for 30 days and their policy was if it had not moved in 30 days, it goes to auction.

He said the car was going to auction the next day. I said I might be interested in it for a rediculously low $12,000. He agreed without hesitation, which surprised the hell out of me, he didn't even have to check with his boss, he just instantly agreed to my lowball offer, which told me maybe there was something wrong with the car, and maybe the mention that it was going to auction the next day wasn't just BS saleperson pressure,

but, when I drove by the next day, indeed it was gone and did not come back anytime I re-checked......so, I tend to think maybe it was one of those rare occasions where a used car salesman really was telling the truth, maybe it did go to auction.

Damnit, I wish I held onto the VIN #.........my mechanic and his auction buddy were trying to keep track of it to inspect it if it was in good shape or a lemon, but they could never get near it and I ended up getting one from Austin, so we called it off.

I hope this isn't yours, I doubt it is, I don't want to scare you or nothing but thought I would throw it out there just so we could rule it out. Again the mileage was under 45,000.....what is your mileage?

My mileage is 43310. So just under 45k. My carfax shows the car was originally trading in March 1st. But when I think about it, the car being auctioned to other dealers wouldn't show up on a carfax because it isn't being titled.

When I first saw it at the dealership, it was listed for 15,995; but it was listed on eBay for 13,995 so I went ahead and offered 13500, and they came back with 13650, and that is what we went with.

Not trying to, honestly......I mentioned the "under 45K miles" before malignant mentioned his mileage of 43,310........I mentioned I saw it "early March" before he mentioned the carfax said it was traded around then......I mentioned a price "about $14,000" before he mentioned it was on ebay for $13,995.

malignant, I'm not trying to scare you....it is just that there were 3 RX8's at dealerships in SA last March that I would be cautious of, and I'd rather give you the heads up now before any return policy expires.

And considering I last saw this car 3 months ago it is highly unlikely it is still on a lot anywhere in SA, or even unsold at all.

Crap.....sorry if I am scaring the crap out of you.

EDIT: Just called my wife, she sat in the car, but can't remember what the interior was like.

I love the 8 so far, just that 1-2 shift bothers me, but I looked in another thread and saw that many people seem to have to issue, so hopefully the rotary tech will know what he is looking at when he sees my car on tuesday.

In an above post I mentioned that if I shift out of 1st into 2nd at 7000+ rpms, 2nd gear grinds really bad and won't go in for a second. Yet, if I double-clutch then it goes in fine, just takes a little bit longer to perform the shift. So I set up an appointment with a dealer here in Austin to have it checked out, since I'm still under warranty.

ooohhhh boy!!! Thats where it all started with mine!! I bought mine at an auction and couldnt get into second above 7K. Turns out the syncro was bad, then they fix it and it happens again, then 6 gear grinds, then my tranny blows, then I get a new tranny, then my seals leak, then they wont warranty seals because I caused it from 'abuse', then my cat fails, then my throw out bearing chatters, then I need a new clutch under warranty, then my metering pump fails, engine leaks oil, then my warranty expires and now my car has no problems

I love rx8's

Well at least you got the new clutch under warranty. The dealer already told me that if it is the clutch then they won't pay for it because it's a wear and tear item. That's fine with me anyway, because if I have to replace my clutch I wouldn't want an OEM clutch anyway, might as well buy a performance clutch that can handle the load. But I hope it's just my synchros being bad anyway, just gotta wait for them to check it out.
