me: thanks, no it has a 1.3 ltr rotary engine.

strange: so its kinda like a v6 right?

me: not really.

strange: how do u afford this car working here? What do you do on the side?
Similar thing happened to me. At a Penzoil QL place, they started to pull the cover off, nearly ripping the grommets off, as I watched in pain from behind the dash, so I got out because I didn't want them to tear the grommets off, and took the cover off myself. Then he started asking me where everything was, and if it was a 6 or 8 cylinder. I should have known to have just left at that point.

I told them it was a rotary. The guy clearly didn't ever hear that word. I know he wanted to ask me again if it was a 6 or 8 cyclinder (or 4 or whatever) but didn't.

He asked the guy below if he saw the filter, guy answered "no." I told him the filter was on top, and pointed to it.

Then I told him I wanted 5W-30, and he acted as if I was from Mars.

Then I got pissed, because I had enough, and told him never mind, because I was late for an appointment. He acted offended and surprised but I didn't give a rat's ***. I put the engine cover back on, kind told him to move, shut the hood, got in my car and took off. They didn't say a word as I left - just stared.

There is no doubt in my mind it would have taken them an hour to figure everything out, they would have screwed something up badly in the process, too, and that they probably didn't even stock the right filter.

I should have known better than to ever go to a Quick Lube place, but I really was having a crazy week and needed to get an oil change ASAP.

I've changed my own oil ever since. 5W-30 Halvoline and either Wix or Purolator PureOne filters.

the most random thing ive had happen to me is, i was in a mall here in birmingham with my girlfriend while she was getting a dress, we were in there about 30 mins - I have an 04 Nickel 8 - and when I came out i had a partially torn envelop underneath my wiper blade. the message on it stated that this person had been looking for this "great looking car" like mine and if i wanted to sell it to call a number they left....there was a name but i couldnt read it.

I kept the letter for a while - just to show ppl, me and my g/f were like "wtf"

I get all kinds of stares and comments all the time, but the one thing that I will always remember is from a couple of years ago. Was driving down the main road on the way to work and pulled into the local O'Rielly store to pick up a few things and a car pulls up next to me. At first I did not recognize it but the guy in it rolled down the window as asked me if I was a rotary fan. Then I realized he was driving a 94 RX-7. It was a really nice one that he had taken very good care of. I told him that I was a fan and had wanted one since my roommate in college had an RX-7 one back in 85. We talked for a few minutes and he said welcome to the club then cya later.

Last week some loser in a beat up 2000 Camaro pulled up next to me wanting to race. I said no thanks, but he just kept on about it. When the light turned green he peeled out and I noticed that his front left tire was woobling REALLY bad. I was shocked that it was even on the road. But I did not even attempt or even consider racing. I could hear him and his passenger at the next light laughing about how they waxed me. Morons.

The first time my girlfriend saw my car, she just said that it was really small.

Tonight, I walk her to her door, she looks back and says "Your car is really nice."

I was happy.

Live just outside of Phila & I get looks everyday and compliments on the car at least once a week... Kids, and old/middle aged men mostly (the young ones just wanna race me - there is a lot to be said for a fast car AND driving experience!) My fav story is:
My boss, whom I've known for 20 years (female) comes out to see my new car as I (female) am showing it a friend...she says "what does that say about us...I get a new bedroom and you get a sportscar" I say, "You've never seen my bedroom"...meeeeeooowwwwwww.

so true, but the other day some girl comes up to me and starts asking me about the car, when I got back out and opened the back door, her jaw dropped

"But it's so small" she says, that's when I go WTF...

Then she asked me what kind of engine it had, and that was her WTF moment.

I would have given her my card if I had one on me so she could test drive it later, not that I want MORE ppl to have rx-8s in my town. There's already like 25 of them in a town of 45,000. I wanna be special, dammit! I think I kinda drove her off when I told her what the gas mileage was tho.

Everyone who actually rides in the 8 loves it ten times more than when they just see it.

And another funny story, I was pulling out onto the 101 leaving santa maria and this ricer in front of me keeps trying to out accelerate me on the ramp, I match his speed all the way to give him a hard time. As his revs build, more and more smoke starts to pour out of the tailpipe and the whole thing starts to stink really bad between the oil and what smells like an overly rich engine, and suddenly I didn't want to be behind him anymore. He OUTSTUNK me! I had to wait till he was cruising before I dared to pass him since he wasn't smoking anymore.

PS, this should be sticky

well the diffrence between a ricer and a tuner.. is a ricer slaps the **** on there and calls it good.. the tuner actually takes the time to make it run properly..

and when i smelled this it was in a 94 camaro with the lt1(stock) and he was able to beat the ricer.. and ive raced him with the 8 and i keep up with him through 4th then he starts pulling away again...

so it could be.. not saying it was just saying it could of been...

[QUOTE=rafaga;2374266]I bought my RX-8 a few months ago and a few weeks later I went to visit my family in Colombia, South America. Mazda has a HUGE market share down there with Mazda3's and Mazda6's, but they don't offer the RX-8, so very few people know about it.
QUOTE]

LOL...I'm Colombian too (well, half) and had similar experience!! My stepdad down there has owned several Mazdas, and he had that look of 'wonderment' when I said that my new Mazda was an RX8. "iiChevere!!"
aside from him, the only other person who knew it was my 7 yo. nephew.

So was it Valvoline, or Havoline? or do you make up a mixture of both?

two short stories..

UPS delivery man gets out of his truck as I am finishing up my 3rd coat of Zaino.. Asks me " Is that the new Viper?".. I replied "No it is a Mazda RX-8".. He stands there for a sec... "Cool.. Nice car."

Second story..

A cop was dropping off a letter for my mother on the town council at night. Then asks me about my car and takes out the flash light and starts looking in it and all. If my neighbor looked out side I am sure it would have looked like he was checking my car for drugs or whatever... Anyway.. He then asks me "Is this car fast?" I said "I don't know, it won't go any faster than 40mph(speed limit of local roads)" he laughs and says good night..

Absolutely love these stories. I am a proud owner of a 2004 titanium grey 8 for about 7 months now. The car must be antagonistic or something because it seems like everyone, and I mean EVERYONE wants a race! I can see being taunted by other sports cars that can pose a challenge but taunts from cars like a f***ing Totyota Prius??? Seriously, I kid you not I pull up next to prius at the light this morning and I notice the guy glance over at me in his new, sticker-in-the-window, POS prius and he starts reving his engine! I am thinking, is this for real??? The light turns green and he floors his hybrid put-put and I of course didn't waste my time and just pulled away slowly shaking my head.....WTF? *sigh* This happens way too much.

^ I hear ya... It happens to me on a daily basis... I've had cars spot me at a traffic light from the opposite side of the road as they're making a turn... Of course in that turn, they're burning rubber...I get the whole 9.

Out of the mouths of babes…

I've only had my 8 for a couple of months but my favorite story so far is about one of my neighbor's kids.

I was taking some groceries out of my car when their little boy who is probably 3-4 came around the side of the house. He said, hi like he normally does, I said hi back and continued to empty my car. As I close the door I hear him say, "I love your car." It surprised me so much all I could do was giggle and say thank you.

People thinking the car costs $40k+ all the time
Having to explain what a rotary is
Suicide doors.
Amazing handling going up and down twisty roads with people trying to keep up

Those are my WTF moments.
