These stories are fantastic.

You all reminded me that I open the suicide doors every chance I get so that I obtain that WTF? reaction from onlookers at the car wash and gas station, etc.

Hehehe...I love doing that.

This happened a few days ago: I take my parents and my girlfriend to a fancy restaurant. When we get there there the valet guy opens my door and greets me very nicely but then he just waits there. So I then proceed to open the backdoor and he was like "oh! er...right! the other door! let me get that for you, please". The guy felt so bad I had to contain my laughter.

new one

Yesterday I was driving on highway 101 and this girl passes me on the inside and her head just completely unscrews itself as she looks around at the car and me, I thought it was amusing.

Then I get the WTF moment as I realize that her rear passenger side tire is at about 2 psi and about to blow. I pull up along side her and try to get her to pull over and at first she thinks I'm just flirting with her, but once she saw I wasn't and I was really worried her WTF face suddenly came out... I get her to stop.... Then I pull out the "instant mobility" kit and try and pump up her tire... it was too far gone and wouldn't hold pressure, but I was feeling pretty smug by the end of it.

I love my car...

so this is my recent wtf moment.. has nothing to do with driving... but my insurance rate "was" decent for my record... and i wake up to this letter saying they can no longer insure me after 8/26/08. My last ticket i got was in 9/09/07. Priors were 1/06/06, 3/26/06, and 5/06/06.. so why in the hell did it take them this long to figure out i was a high risk driver... none of these tickets came from the 8.. all from my 77 280z... lol.. so now im looking at qoutes for the 450 a month range... instead of my 193 ive been paying... and it pisses me off cuz i would never of bought the 8 knowing that... i simply cant afford 450 a month and 300 a month for car payment... my insurance is going to cost more than the car... but if i survive the next 3 years... my rates will be low as **** again... so im debating weather or not to keep the 8 and suffer or say **** it, ill buy another one later... or just build up my LS3 datsun... so yea... lol

so i have two stories:

the first one was when i just got the car and took it for an oil change, i usally just go to this garage by me pick up mobile 1 and pay the guy 15 bucks to drop the plug and put the new oil in to avoid a mess at home. He comes up to me and says, its gonna cost more than 15 dollars, more like 60, i need to take the whole front bumper off along with the gaurd underneath to get to the engine, so i walk under the lift and point to the plug, and hes like "SH*T the engine is that far back?" needless to say it cost 15 dollars haha

next one was at BMW club autocross yesterday, some older guy from eastern europe was running a 70's bmw and asked what i had, i told him an rx8, and he went off about how much he loved the wankel back in the old country. his complaint with them was how they were so smooth and reved so high hed always push them too hard and blew like 5 engines. i told him thats what the shift beep was for =)

Someone logged onto MSN, and sent this to me. Gave me chuckles.

Daan Says:
Just to inform you; when the aliens invade, and it turns out only drunk people can fight them, you will be selected to save the world in your rx8, which we will redub 'pitzmobile'.

I am a personal trainer and one of the favorite clients is a police Sargent. The first time he saw the car the first words out of his mouth were "Do you have my cell number because I think your going to need it." Sometimes cops are the best friends to have ;-)

Don't remember specific moments..., but I noticed kids LOVE this car. I've always attributed it to the "Zoom-Zoom" effect. Every time a kid passes by, they put on this googley eyed look. Don't know why...., don't know how.

Aside from kids, I sometimes get looks, I sometimes don't. I live in a college town (West Lafayette, IN), and not many people give a **** unless it rumbles like a V8. That, and there are *many* rich Asian kids running around in daddy's money (I am one of them..., minus the "rich" part). Porsches, E94 M3s, STIs, you name it.

But the town's car club loves it. They think it looks sick, and their only complaint is that there is low torque (this is, of course, coming from muscle car guys who have V8s sitting in their hood).

There was once I had to take a girl home from martial arts practice (It's common practice in the dojo, for safety's sake). She probably thought I drove a shitbox of some kind..., until she saw it. She was almost breathless as she uttered "You have a very nice car". I said "thanks, this is my baby".

loving all the other 8 owners

Was driving home from late night classes and a bunch of high school kids and their little civics and trash can mufflers pulls up next to me on the highway and start screwing with me. I was tempted to just blow them away when two 8's who I guess were just out crusiing around came up behind them and messing with them. Finally the civics bailed and I stopped to get some food at a Carl's Jr. The other 2 8's stopped and seeing that I had a paper tag still on my car told me its just something Ill have to get used to from the little kids in town. Couple of really cool guys. Copper 06 Shinka and a Red 07 Gt. Hopefully I can hang with them again someday.

Holy thread resurrection.

Welcome, Jbritt.

Black is a great color, and '05 is the fastest model year for the 8.

Been a while since someone posted.....

Last weekend a few 8s met together and went for a drive north of Dallas for lunch. On our way back this POS Monte Carlo decides he wants to hang with us and, much to my chagrin, gets stuck in the middle of the pack right in front of me. Well, he succeeds in staying with us through that straight and decides to try to hang with us on the next turn....which wasn't happening. He lost it pretty bad and almost kissed the OTHER shoulder. The rest of us passed him on the next straight.

This has happened to me a few times....why do people shut their brains off and try to turn with us? As if suddenly the laws of physics have been repealed, just because the 8 in front of them did it...

My stories (3 in all)

#1: First time I drove it to work, a couple of guys saw it parked outside through the window, and one of the exclaimed "wow that's an RX8, that's like a supercar (i.e. along the Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lambo ilk)

#2: At a car custom's place making a dash board protector (I park under the sun day in an day out as working on a project site with NO shaded parking), one guy comes up and says to me ' That's the new RX8 right?' I go 'yup" , then he asks me, 'so this costs you $80 grand?, I', like errm... no.' but looks like 80k car doesn't it?'

#3: A colleague of mine, after a coupke of weeks with the 8, asks me, 'so how's the car?'. I go 'Awesome!". He replies "yeah man, must be. You knw when we go to the arcade, we drive your car in the arcade!"

I'm getting my Aero bumpers for my 2009 RX8 so hopefully that will pull in more compliments. There's ALOT of 8s around though in my country so doesn't turn as much heads, but still pretty awesome.

I am 17 and have been in love with the RX-8 ever since I can remember. Unfortunantly almost all of the somewhat positive comments I have gotten since getting mine is "is that your moms/dads car?" or "did your parents buy that for you?".

I'm stationed over in Germany, so you can imagine how many Porsche's, BMW's, and nice Audi's there are around here. I've been chased by way too many Porsche's to count lol. The best one was being chased down this windy road by a GT3.......... we got down to the bottom of the hill and pull up to a red light. He's in the turning lane and I'm going straight, but he gives me a thumbs up. God I love Germany....

The other day I parked to go into a store and there was a few people loading their car. They had a late 90s Camero with rust and missing a front fender. We could hear the "ooo" and "ahhs" as we drove past. The driver, young with a mohawk and piercings comes quickly over and asks the year. "It's an '06" I reply. He comes back with "I could have sworn it was the 07 model. It's got the LT1 doesn't it?". Me - "Ummm...no, rotary". He looks confused and goes on with how he's looking to drop a LT1 into his ride.

<sigh> I've had people confuse it with many different brands but never before as a Vette!

My little story:

I purchased my 8 from a dealership four hour south of my house a couple months ago. Went down to pick it up, and took the country route for the ride back (had to enjoy the new ride of course). Going through one of the smaller towns, I come over a hill to see four cop cars all on the right side of the road side by side, and see a fifth about a quarter mile down the road having pulled someone over. I know I'm about to get pulled over, but had no clue it would require three of the four cops following me 1/2 a mile before throwing their lights on, and the fourth one arriving 3-4 minutes later. One of the cops asks me to step out of the vehicle, as the others (it appears most, if not all of them had two cops per vehicle) are all pacing around my vehicle. He asks to look over my paperwork, as another asks me to pop my trunk, and then the hood. They also do a tint check on the windows. So, after a good 15 minutes 3 of the four cop cars take off, and the last officer (the one who arrived later then the others) tells me they pulled me over because they wanted to check out my car, and then proceeds to tell me how much he's been wanting to purchase an rx8 just like the one I just had. 30 minutes on the side of the road with four cop cars worth of flashing lights going the first night I got my 8. Enough said.

And just a note - I was indeed doing the speed limit.

Was at a small car show and started talking to a guy at his booth about this oil treatment that allows the oil to get in more places. He was telling me how it would help my engine by allowing the oil to get into my engine internals. I told him I don't have any engine internals. He looked a bit confused and started telling me what engine internals were... I told him I don't have any of those things. I have 3 simple moving parts. He starts looking at me like I am an absolute idiot and asks what kind of car I have.

I tell him an rx-8 with a rotary engine and he just says he has company has not really looked into that engine type and tries to sell me something for transmissions.
