This past winter I pulled into some parking lot because I had to brush off my windshield (wipers just weren't doing it for me). A man just getting out of work got out of the nearby building and saw me.

"What kind of car is that?"

"It's a Mazda RX-8"

"I've never heard of those, but my wife had an RX-7"

"Good." (in dick tone lol)

I actually wasn't driving the car, but I let my sister in law borrow it to go to her boss's house for something quick. She shows up and he is sitting on his front porch and says, "where did you steal that car from." She says, oh I didn't, its nick's (my brother) little brother's car, her boss says, "little brother!, what is he? a pimp or something?"

I drop off my daughter at preschool M-F in my RX-8. One of the teachers came out and was running all around the car saying "how tight" it was. I just said thanks....he was really obnoxious...All the kids at the school love it too. They just stop and stare as I drive by. The director's son says that I am cool because of the car I drive. Had one little boy in my daughters class draw me a picture of my 8yesterday. Cracks me up with all the looks I get. I've never had that experience in owning a car before.

I got to drive my car around my girlfriend's campus all week, and it's cool to see that at an expensive private college where there's BMWs and Audis everywhere, it's the dirty RX8 that turned all the heads. I've owned it for almost three years and it still gets stares.

I also love driving down a certain street in my hometown, where the kids will run down the street next to me to shout "NICE CAR!" And sometimes, when I'm spending all afternoon washing it, some of the neighborhood kids come around to help out or just stare for a bit. Moms will roll down the windows of their SUVs to say hi and that "my boys just won't stop talking about your car!"

There's also a dragstrip in my town that's a fairly big deal as dragstrips go. So there are lots of performance shops around like Buschur Racing and CRT Performance, which means there are some real monsters prowling the streets. But for every monster there's at least 5 posers in old Eagle Talons or early-90's Probes, and they're fun to pick on. They always floor it past me when I'm filling up or checking my oil at the downtown gas station, and I take it as a compliment. Some of the have run across the 04 AT around and think mine is nothing special- until it spits fire. My favorite had to be when a hippie van tried to race me (I think it was a Citroen).

^nice

Has anyone just noticed how many people turn their heads at the car on the streets? I see people staring all the time, I am considering waving at them.

Another one:

I first test drove an 8 this past May (glad I didn't purchase that one). I remember at every intersection I got to there was a kid in a car next to me who just kept smiling and pointing and "awww"ing. First time that's ever happened, nice feeling. :D

I can't begin to share the endless looks I get. The endless compliments. The endless insecure, Honda, Dodge, Fords, etc drivers that have to REV their engine as they drive by me or sit beside me at the traffic lights. From the stories I've read here..it's obvious that we have similar stories about how, cool, sexy, awesome, expensive looking, or how at times may even resemble a Porsche..this car is! Other than the gas stations..the looks while I'm pumping..to include the attendant stating "You got a nice car" through their intercom from inside the store..

My funniest story has got to be the following:

I'm sitting at a red light.. I have a County Police Officer behind me. Right before the light changes, He turns his lights on. All I can do is start thinking about what I could have possibly done before I arrived at that stop light. As he approaches my car, my first reaction was to inquire about the situation..

Me: "Hello Officer, is something wrong?"

Officer: (Mute) Walks up toward my car. Walks toward the back. Walks back to the window.

Me: "Did I do anything wrong?"

Officer: (Smiling) "You have such and awesome car!" "I had seen it several times and I've been looking for an excuse to pull you over."

Me: (Waiting for my heart to come up from my a$$) "Thank you!" "OMG, I was thinking what I could possibly have done wrong just sitting still..!!"

Officer: (LOL) "I'm sorry!" "Didn't mean to scare you, I've just been meaning to stop you." You just haven't been giving me a reason to."

Me: (Relieved) "Well, I guess that's a good thing."

Office: "Yes it is." "Drive safe and have a nice day."

My friends we're like... "That's never happened to me..!"

I just smile. :D

Same crap happened to me. When I got the car, everybody felt the need to explain how I'm, "Making the big bucks". I had this one guy be all spiteful to me since, apparently, he doesn't like the engines, so he'll talk to whoever he can and diss it, I guess in hopes that I will break down and cry or something....*sigh*

(Asian eyes are great for how small they are lol) but from the corner of my eyes i can see when the boyfriend was holding her hand walking towards the beat up pickup, the girl turned her head back to look at the car several times, it was awesome

i've also had ppl joke tat i am being paid too much for an intern XD

I pull into the gas station and an older guy comes out of his F150 yelling "hey is that the new rx-8?!" "Nice looking car" he says. "my daughter just bought one, but she lives in texas and this is the first time i saw one in person" he then thanks me for letting him look at it. When he's walking back to his car he keeps looking back at mine....reminds me of them armour all commercials lol.

Same gas station different day...
I open up the back door to pull out some stuff to throw away and a truck driver next to me sees the suicide doors and says "now that's slick" "that car looks fast!"
"how much power?" I say "232 hp" he says "what's it got a V6?" I say "nope a 1.3 liter" he says "what? that's all? is it turbo or something?" I tell him it's normally aspirated and that it's a 2 rotor engine....he then goes rotor? it that like a dual cam engine? lol

my favorite moment was when i was driving down Valley view and Lincoln with my gf, and at the crosswalk, this asian woman was pushing a stroller with a small baby inside, the baby looked at my car and then looked at me, smiled and then waved very inthusiastically, my gf was pretty amused, so was i, and she wouldn't stop waving, the mother was also staring at my car and was looking at me and my girl, too bad they didn't realize it was about to be green........lol

the first thing that goes through my head is "well no $#!+ sherlock." I was surprised that he was even intimidated . (although i did blow past him once in my old mr2 turbo when he used to drive a gs400)

i pulled into a 7-11 and there was this guy who came up to my car and said it looked like a space ship. Then he started asking all these technical questions and me and my friend just responded in robot voices like JP from grandmas boy. It was halarious.

maybe 10-12 days after i bought my rx8, the wife and i were driving on the I-15 to vegas from L.A. the 15 is almost lawless, everyone is doing at least 90 the whole way.. there was a choke point where traffic was going about 65.. i noticed the right lane was free, signaled to change lanes and went for it.. there was a motorcycle behind me mimicking my signal/lane change combos.. once i got to the clear right lane, i downshifted to 3rd and punched it.. motorcycle is right behind me.. i shoot past the gaggle of cars and start to make my way back to the left lane.. right before i get over to the leftmost lane the motorcycle guns it and passes me.. i'm doing about 85-90 at this point.. i look over to give him the head-nod whassup style and it's a friggin cop! he gives me the head-nod right back and zooms off.. it was like i had his blessing to speed all i wanted.. then later on when we stopped for gas.. there was a guy in a 911 at the next pump over.. i told him "that's a nice car" ... he then said "THAT's a nice car".. great day

I was attending a wedding last year and my 8 was parked right next to a Mustang Cobra belonging to one of my GF's cousins. Now this cobra is a seriously monstrous piece of car, the engine is fully built... when it's idling you don't really know if what you're hearing is the engine or a thunderous summer storm approaching.

Some uncle walks up to the cars and looks real carefully at them... discussion goes like this:

Uncle: "What kinda car is that? Mazda? It's turbo'ed?"
Me: "Yup it's a Mazda but no turbo. Rotary engine."
Uncle: "hu-hu... you gonna race? The 'Stang is fast but can't touch your car! How much faster is yours? Goes to what? 120? 150?"
Me: "err... the Cobra would totally blow my doors off, it wouldn't even be a race! It's a beast."
Uncle: "Awrr stop it... yours is faster!"
Me: "It's not!"
Uncle : "For real? you're kidding? I'd be putting my money on yours!"
Me: "It would be embarrassing to line up next to him. Like pretending I have a chance."
Uncle: *suspiscious look* "hmm... ok"... *walks away*

Back in 04, I was driving home from work on the toll road. I would get an opening in traffic and I would accelerate hard. An undercover Ford Explorer charged up behind me and turned on his lights. After calling in the licence he handed it back to me and said "I think you can handle that speed and I know that car can. The rest of the people out he can't. Please slow down". He then let me go. I hadn't been watching my speed, but I could have been into the triple digits.

Was walking back to my car one night and could see my car in the distance . There were several guys standing around it and they had parked their car , on the footpath , in front of it with their headlights shining on my car.
I was thinking they were fixing to steal my car so I started running towards it . They see me coming and sort of back away realising what it looked like . As I get there one of them apologises . "hey man , it's OK , we just saw your awesome car and had to get a picture iof it !"
