I want to get rid of the reverse drive. I was thinking of using rx8 pump and wrapping the belt around the water pump pulley instead. I moved the alternator few inches toward the driverside, so the contact area for the belt at the FD water pump pulley has become almost non existent.

No, that won't work like that. First choice-you could use the stock 20b water pump housing and a 2nd gen thermostat housing(as the 13bre and 20b have dual thermostats). This would also need some redoing with the hosing. 2nd choice-would be going with an electric water pump-although it's more expenses which is something you probably don't need anymore of. By doing this you could free up all that space. 3rd, would be getting an electric water pump which fits exactly like the original pump does-but you keep all the old water pump housing setup. btw, what about using an idler pulley?

I actually have electric water pump installed already. I wanted to get rid of it because I've been told they are unreliable. btw, why does 2nd gen have 2 thermostats? idler pulley is a good idea but that air pump area has no more clearance left due to turbo & pipes... I had to even cut the thermostat housing & relocate the fill neck for this reason.

I'd leave it as it is then. You have gauges so, just keep an eye on it. Only the 13bre and 20b had the dual thermostat. I guess it's just a fail safe in case the lower temp doesn't open, the second one will.

quality EWPs actually last a a long time and there's nothing that prevents you from plumbing in an emergency backup that automatically comes on at a high temperature setting - try doing that with a mechanical pump/belt setup

Thumbs up

Nice man, glad you are still moving forward.

You going to run a open wastegate or recirculate it?

Hehe, last month I was a groomsman at one of my best friends' weddings, and as groomsmen gifts we all received "personal" cufflinks. I got a pair of rotor ones :D

wow, I had forgotten this post existed. as some of you know, the car's gone though many changes. lonnnng story short, i bought my own tig welder and with help from one of my patients and a good friend, I finished the car around 2011. the car had intake manifold leak from the custom manifold and drove like crap. I then took a job in Florida and gave the car to kilo racing who redid intake side little bit, welded a thicker flange to the manifold, and jesus tuned the car like a champ. it still had small leak though. gato racing in orlando then redid all my turbo/exhaust piping. I drove the car around and broke the rx7 transmission on the third gear twice. I was going to do a T56 swap and tore the car down again but after test driving a corvette, I found out I hate the T56 feel. I then decided to put the rx7 transmission back in and decided to fix the leak. about 2013, I decided to cut the firewall out so i can fit a custom gato racing upper/lower manifold, but with the extra rails and AN-10 fittings, it wouldn't clear the crossbeam behind the firewall by less than an inch! oh well, i then decided to go with the custom cast short lower, oem upper manifold, and throttle body for the time being. put oem water pump back in, some chassis bracing, etc. about this time, the wiring looked like a spider web after having gone through many renditions. so I traced every single wire to the ecu and cut unnecessary ones. I pretty much ended up replacing almost all the wires to brand new ones and just soldered away many weekends in a row. I also decided to move the fusebox to where evaporator used to be while I'm at it. did all the wiring, got the battery connected, and wala, it wouldn't turn on. I then went through everything and was working on solving each issue one by one, got the dash to light up, accessory fuse to work, ignition fuse working, but eventually got too tired of working on the wires on my free time. i then decided to give the car to a shop in phoenix to finish it up. they have been working on it. last time it dyno'd, the brand new exedy hypercarbon twin-disc clutch slipped like hell, so once that's figured out, i'll probably break the transmission again. eventually, I may end up going with t56 magnum, but I bet as soon as that happens, my rear diff will go next. with these cars, you expect to break things on a regular basis. it's not really a car anymore, but a science experiment. if nothing breaks, I'm either turning up the boost or going stickier tires/widebody until something does. well anyhow, there are many overdue thanks to many board members who I hope to meet in person someday. here's the car today.
