Tips: How to deal with a Mazda dealer ?

There have been many threads about buying RX8 at MSRP, below MSRP, and even somewhere near invoice price. Please contribute your tips and tricks of the trade while dealing with a Mazda dealer to convince them selling RX8 below MSRP, at invoice or near invoice.

Let me start with the very obvious like asking for a discount since the car is making 238 HP instead of the advertised 247.

1. Make sure you've given them contact information and then if they don't give you what you think is a fair deal, W-A-L-K . If they really want to sell you the car, they'll contact you later. But realize that they might not contact you.

2. Make it clear that you don't have to have the car. The car you're driving is just fine and you are looking at replacing with the RX-8 only if you get a deal you consider fair.

3. NEVER buy the same day. Say you have to go home and think the numbers over. Then call back the next afternoon and either accept their offer, or try to get another $500 or $1000 out of them. They may try to meet you halfway. This worked for me, and I ended up with $250 below MSRP.

4. Be prepared to go to all dealers in your general area and play them off each other. This is tiresome, but it works.

5.) Only deal with the internet/fleet manager, NEVER with the Sales Person on the floor. ( Internet/Fleet Manager works off # of sales and not on commission on the price.)

6.) Once you have your best quotes ... DO NOT USE a internet service for contacting the final dealers... they get kickbacks that you will end up paying for.

7.) Find the dealerships own website and e-mail them directly.
I am getting a bit confused here: Is there an internet fleet manager for every dealership? Are you talking about someone at the dealership with whom you'll be exchanging emails? Because in no. 7 above you talk about email-ing dealership directly. Does that mean the Internet/fleet manager is a third party?

9.) A copy of the Dealer Invoice helps too if your able to get it. ( I had a copy)
Where can you get the hard copy?

12.) Helps to know the % of holdback too.
What is holdback?

14.) Any deal that you get that is in the range of $1,000 total dealer profit is considered a good deal. (That includes the holdback)
E.g: Assume MSRP = $31,100 ..... assume Invoice = $28,000 ....... 28000 + 1000 profit = $29,000
In the above example is $29,000 considered a good deal by the dealer? (Holdback part will be clear when we get an answer for no. 12 above)
