Researching reasonable prices
Hello all,
I am looking at getting a rx8 manual in gt. What is a reasonable price otd for me? I am hoping to get 25kotd after whatever discounts I can dig up. Is this reasonable??
I am in santa clara, ca. Any advice would be great.

I'm not so optimistic.
GT invoice: 28,900
- rebate: 3,000

sub total: 25,900
Dealers will go below that, but look where you have to get to be at $25,000 OTD. Assuming approximately 10% for TTL in CA your price on the car has to be $22,700. I don' t see dealers finding another $3200 discount on the price for you. Not going to happen on an 06 GT for at least another few months IMO.

On the rebate questions, I just bought a 2006 Mazda RX-8 for $6000 below MSRP (MSRP numbers from Edmund & KB) . $3000 MF rebate, $2000 Dealer and $1000 if you finance at least $8000 through Mazda. The car has Touring package, air dam etc. and MSRPs for about $31,800. I got it for $25,800, $27,064 out the door with tax and license. Morrie's Valley Mazda, in Chippewa Falls Wiscosin. The 2006,s have a better warrantee than the 2007s. I asked then to find one with a build date after the June, 1 recall, hopefully the problems are resolved. Nice car.

You're not going to get a GT in California for $25,00 OTD. You should be shooting for invoice minus $2,000-$2,500 below from the dealer AND then take off the Mazda rebates and MAC financing for an additional $3,000. Edmunds is worthless except to find out what the invoice price is. Edmunds ADDS on to the invoice for their "TMV" price. You shouldn't be paying over invoice for leftover 2006's.
I just picked up a 2006 Touring 6AT. I went with the 2006 for the warranty reason too. In fact I got into a debate with the Finance Manager when he tried to sell me on a 6 year warranty (stating that it only came with a 3 year / 36k mile. warranty).
Anyway, my deal was this - MSRP $32,215, Dealer Invoice $29.424, Dealer negotiated price of $27,000-$3,250 rebates (added Zoom Zoom Live of $250) = $23,750. Unfortunately the TTL in Calif. is based on the $27,000 for DMV.

You should be shooting for invoice minus $2,000-$2,500 below from the dealer AND then take off the Mazda rebates and MAC financing for an additional $3,000. I myself am looking at a 2006 GT MT that is an MSRP of 31,170 I believe i may be off a couple of hundreds so looking at what you got off your car i feel that I could talk them down to about 25.5k out the door( that is taxes included right?) well if it is i hope i can get that price. :-D

I hope you can My numbers weren't OTD.
It depends on the invoice price and how much you can get the dealer below that. I found several that said thay started at invoice and what would I offer above it. The two I got serious with started at $500-$700 below invoice.
My point is that in California, DMV requires that the TTL be calculated on the selling price. The selling price is the price before any rebates or discounts. For example say your model has an invoice of $29,175 and you are able to negotiate it down to $26,900. This would be $26,900 + $3,000+ TTL = $29,900 - $3,000 Mazda rebates = $26,900 OTD.
Your GT price seems $2,000-$3,000 lower then what I found left in Northen Calif. so your starting off in a better position.
I think that "best price discussion" should be the price without TTL since they differ across the nation.
