New RX8 Owner
Hey all!
Well on top of all the other things I did this year, New roof, New Deck, New Carpet... Spent a small fortune! But I came across this beautiful red 2004 Mazda RX8 with 22,000 miles asking 11,500 and I couldn't resist!
So am the proud owner of a Touring RX8! Any advice to a new guy to this rotary thing?
Thanks
Dutch

^ welcome to the addiction. Pretty great price for that miliage. You will learn to love this car in every aspect. Just please take care of it right. Check oil every 3rd fill up top off if needed. Change oil like clock work every 3k miles. A red line a day keeps the carbon away. Also let your car warm up before you start ripping into it, shift low for the first few minutes.
Other than that welcome to the club and you can find tons of info on this forum just use the search function.

I'm in the Springs, will checkout the Car Club. I don't pick up the car till tomorrow...And then I go straight out on a trip for my company for 10 days!
Thanks for the advice adamwzl.
Any specific type of oil recommended?
Pics will be up when I get back from my trip!

I use Castrol 5w-30.
I am also in the springs but am currently deployed (won't be back until NOV). There are a ton of Rotary's in the springs (not just 8's). We try and meet up once every other week.
See you around....

Oil has been the biggest debate here since the car came out. There are so many different opinions about what is the best oil to use. I use 10w-40 fully synthetic Mobile1, I also premix with MMO. But try to use a min. of a 5w-30 castrol gtx/royal purple/mobile oil, 5w-20 is just too thin for our engines in the long run. If you want to learn more just take a look at the Oil threads in the Technical subforum.

Got it. Will review the forum. Have an old stock 1991 MX-6 GT. I've had it for 15 years. Replaced the Turbo and Water Pump, New Front/Rear main seals and it still runs like a top. Get 25MPH in the City and I've ran Mobil One Synthetic since it had 80k on the clock. I'll review the tech forum before I make any decisions. Thanks again!
Hey Darth - Sorry to hear you are deployed! Hope your not sleeping under the desert right now. Maybe I'll pick you up and bring you home (I'm a pilot for World Airways) God speed and THANK YOU for your service. I'll buy the first round when you get back.

We flew over here (Sandy Iraqistan) on Ryan Airways? Never flew with them before, but they were real nice.
Looking forward to getting home to my 8, oh and my wife and kids too!
One of the RX7 owners is planning a meet for all of us Rotary folks. Not sure on date/ time yet. Thread below:
