Honestly, I am so envious. Words can not describe how much we miss driving with you. We have not been able to find anything close to the winding road, down here.

^what she said You should come over to the east side of the state and Idaho when you have a chance, it is a different experience. I like both sides of WA though.

DAMN!! I have to work, the curse of the drinking class, on the 29th!
I was hoping to remove those two light bulbs in my defroster duct via the g-force method! Do these events ever happen on Saturday?? That's a beautiful drive! I wanna go! I'm starting to feel sick, already!

If there's a drive down there, and I don't already have plans, I've been known to make the trip. But I don't know those roads well enough to plan anything.

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

I see lots of meat on the list at TWR (burgers and dogs) --- no drinks, or salad, or dessert. But since it's potluck.... you can bring what you want or like.

I love vegetables so I will do that, I don't know what kind of drinks but I will think of something.

How many miles is the trip, I can't figure it out?

Also, why is it called a Potlatch on the TWR website?

Because that's the formal form of the word. The potlatch(potluck) is an American Aboriginal that we've since coopted and anglicanized (potluck = anglican for potlatch).

Miles - I wanna say it is about 60-70 between the park in Stanwood and the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry at the end of Whidbey Island, but I could be wrong (going the opposite inland way to Clinton from Stanwood is only 35 including the ferry). The ferry costs about $6-8, unless you want to drive back the way we came, but I think it's cheaper and faster and more fun to take the ferry.

Potluck vs potlach - I think it must be a typo... either that or Kris knows of a different meaning for potlach. Potluck means everyone brings something and you get the luck of whatever they bring (although we sort of try to coordinate so that we have buns with our burgers ). The word Potlach comes from the Chinook Jargon, meaning "to give away" or "a gift" - it is a vital part of indigenous cultures of the Pacific Northwest (wikipedia).

You don't have to bring 2 things - either veggies or drinks is cool.

Edit: Whoops... Kristopher and I were typing at the same time!!

If we're in still (still waiting to hear on that), I'll bring the dessert.

Thanks Linda, I couldn't remember the specific tribe that contributed the word to our culture.

And please, only bring one item. If there's anything not taken care of, I'll make a grocery run Saturday night.

The scheduled route is about 110 miles total. Plus whatever mileage you need to get too Stanwood and from Mukilteo to home.

Ferry fare is $8.60, and passengers are free Eastbound. You'll easily spend that much just getting back to Deception Pass if you decide to drive back up the island. If you're heading south it's a no brainer. More than double the cost to drive around.

I'm sure there'll be at least one open seat. I'll gladly take a passenger, but if you need to ride up there with me, be prepared to get up a bit early. I'll be in Stanwood before 9.

You can always try to man-handle the insurance rental.

Well, I wouldn't worry about registering if you're going to ride shotgun with somebody. At most, it would be nice if your driver updated their registration.

I second fahrf's question.

PM me if it's my passenger seat you have your eye on.
