How much grip through corners do you lose when the tires are stretched that much? I'm sure it's not for tracking I'm just curious?

 

Why would you do that instead of buying properly sized tires for the rims? Seems stupid. By the looks of that car, money doesn't look like a problem?

 

I think it's definately fashion before function. I'm sure that's the look they're going for.

Kinda setting myself up to get smacked down by Leon on this one, but my understanding is that a little stretch can increase grip by giving you a stronger sidewall. That much stretch is obviously too much though.

Among the AutoX'ers, common wisdom dictated just using the "correct" size of tire rather than going to one that is too wide for the wheel in search of extra grip. In reality, summer performance tires have quite stiff sidewalls, to the point of my lower profile all-seasons being noticeably more comfortable than my starspecs that had more sidewall.

 

People going for stretch aren't going for track speed or grip...It's a lifestyle and a car modification choice. You actually lose grip with those kinds of stretched tires. But having that tucked, cambered, stretched look is appealing to a wide audience in the car market. Sean's RX8 is a perfect example of a RX8 in the stanced scene. Same with InGhostColors.
