what was the vac readings before the seafoam?
I want to know how low it was....

Wow. That is odd. Especially since it was so strong at the dyno day we did in January with Jeff. Even with a clogged cat. it pulled really hard and strong.

Fault with the dyno
It was stalling all the time at idle... We took a 10min spin during the tuning processes and it stalled 6 or 7 times, sometimes just while coasting out of gear.

At idle my vac was 13" and after the seafoam it went up to about 16-17". So I am not to sure what is going on. I will have to do a compression test I suppose. It drives fine now, it doesnt stall or nothing. Its pulls hard as hell to about 5-5.5k then the power drops. So I am going to get some new plugs and seafoam again. On the dyno day I only let the seafoam sit for about 30 mins. So I will let it sit overnight when I do it the next time. There was possibly to much carbon build up from the AFR's being in the 8-9's im assuming. Kane can probably tell more about how rich it was, but it was pretty bad.

dang that is low

the vac seems good now--do you notice any power difference?
any stalling?

Sound like your engine is OK and there is another "issue" going on .
You saw what 05rex8 had to do to get power past 5500 didn't you ?
Could be the same thing . The clipped turbine just does not work with the stock actuator .

Yeah I saw that, but in July I was able to pull 290whp at 7k with it running really rich as hell. So I would assume that the tune has definitely gotten better since then obviously. So I dont know how it made no power this time.

^I'd like to see the dyno chart on that

my boost spike was my peak HP and that was at a higher rpm. boost would drop down to like 5-6psi before that. I'd like to see your power curve leading up to your peak HP...if it was anything like mine, you would need to modify the actuator arm

No - the 290 WHP graph looks pretty good; minus the stupid rich AFR's.

Mad props to Ray - with the right dwell those damn coils can light a spark at 8 AFR and 9 PSI!!!!

I had to pull 25% out at the top end just to un-peg the wideband.... so it was a tad bit rich.... LOL

Now he is seeing clean 11.5 AFR's to redline, good timing and no knock sensor drama @ 9PSI..... so actuator arm or not - 9 PSI is 9 PSI... there is no reason he should not be seeing better than 290 other than loss of compression (either from OMP underoiling or carbon buildup) or something else I haven't though of....

Thanks for the clarifying Kane. My car did run super rich for a couple of months, so I am hoping that its just carbon build up.

I will be doing Seafoam again tonight, letting it sit over night and see what it does.

Also, I should be get some new plugs. Do you think that willl help it out a bit?

Another question, is 15-16" okay on a engine at idle?

Your plugs looked fine - you can clean 'em if you want to just be safe.

15-16 at idle is the low side of OK; but that reading doesn't tell all; you need a compression test.

Almost all of the turbo motors I've seen only make 7.5 - 8.0 PSI (15" - 16") of vacuum, even with a new install on a totally fresh, high-compression motor.
Probably something to do with the long intake path.
Giver or take for altitude.

Hot-start problems are usually fueling.
Low compression is power loss at low RPMs.
Low compression motors usually make GREAT power as the RPMs climb.

I think that is where Dan got the carbon issue maybe; as we lost power up top (maybe due to blow by from stuck seals)... I tell ya; that was a first for me; other than tuning issues like timing, but we fixed that.

So I guess premixing NOW would just be a waste..I will do a compression test, but I am still open to other ideas as to what it could be.

Well your OMP's are now a lot better; so you can prolly avoid premixing unless your oil levels are not dropping (mechanical issue).

I premix just to be safe... in the meantime get that darn compression test!!!!

So -you actually saw 9 psi at 7000+ rpm but made no power ?

That does not make sense

That's what low compression motor do... move air but with limited power....

I bet I couldn't have gotten the turbo too much higher since the power was down, but the BNR turbo is just barely waking up at 9 PSI.
